It might be good for shooting steel targets up close, in kill houses & room clearing exercises but I will stick with the old fashioned HP rounds.

At a $1 per round, thats a bit expensive for my taste & budget, but thats just me.

reason for this overpriced gimmicky crap is to keep collateral damage down. It would be helpful for LEOs since FMJ have a tendency to overpentrate the target. You also have to realize that most BGs are not wearing body armor so this ammo will do alot of damage to an unprotected BGs. Also have you ever heard of the Geneva convention? Well if you didn't know they have band any use of frangible ammo cause of its lethality. Understand what this ammo is going to be used for rather than bash it.

Yes I do know that it is meant for LEOs as I did mention that in my previous statement. I also know that it can also be used for hunting and varmint. Just wanted to point out that ammo like this are expensive for a reason, same idea behind SD handgun rounds.

Yeah they advertize this shit in Cheaper Than Dirt under their little slogan "Dead Right There" ammo. If you have an uncovered target, like bare flesh, you're good to go... if not... you have an AR/handgun shaped club. I put a raw non-frozen chicken behind a jean jacket, and while the powder went through the jacket, it only penetrated the skin of the chicken, literally stopping between the skin and the breast. I'll be sticking to my .45acp 185gr +P Rem Golden Saber & Barnes 70gr TSX in .223.

im almost certain this type of ammunition is banned from use in war, because this would fall under the catagory of "exploding/disintegrating" ammunition. perfect for law enforcment when you need to drop a target with the minimum of fuss and low likelyhood of any armour though.

I shot some of this ammo myself this weekend. 85gr extremeshock 9mm, to see if I felt good about replacing the hyrdashocks I keep in the nightstand. I was seriously unimpressed with the ammo. I know its designed to not over penetrate, but if the round wont go into an empty aluminum can before 'franging' then I dont trust it to get through a jacket and into a bad guy. Great concept I think, very unimpressed with what I saw. This vid is .223 though, and that is worlds away from my 9mm

Do a little research on the ammo before commenting about how you don't like the guy doing the demo haha. The rounds are the things that should be criticized. not the demonstrator.

Seems to me that this ammo would be more beneficial as a training round especially in CQB or other types of close quarters type of scenarios (good to use in small indoor ranges perhaps?).

Other than that, I would stick with regular ammo. If I had to defend myself, I wouldnt want to trust my life with a dust, but thats just me.

This ammo is more gimmicky bullshit along the same lines of RBCD, just with a frangible instead. A frangible sintered bullet, upon breaking apart, the powder has pretty much NO inertia or mass whatsoever. Ballistic gel thicker composition than the human body? Think again their buddy. 5.45 x 45 AK 74 ammo with thier built in dum dum tips seem to perform better than these do on ballistic gel. Thier wound potential is better at a fraction of the cost. Anyone make dum dum tips in 5.56? To avoid overpenetration of a target around peaple you don't want hurt, use pistol rounds. Or you can use subsonic rifle rounds like the ones you would use with a suppressor.

Youre right, that wouldnt do any damage unless it hit them in the eyes. Thats why DRT is so popular in hostage situations, as soon as it hits it discipates. Unlike a standard round that has risk of penetrating all the way through the target and into the hostage. It has a 100% impact energy transferrance. 5 inches wide, 5 inches deep.

Sounds just like a varmint bullet. I have shot critters at near point blank range with vmax and other fragmenting bullets and not have the bullet over penetrate because it comes apart so effectively.

Theres no such thing as magical dust bullets that blow people up. You simply cannot break the laws of physics. If you have super fast powdered core bullets, they will break apart explosively when they hit the target, but with SHIT penetration.

In reality you dont shoot into jello or water, you shoot at people who are hiding behind cover, wearing armor, wearing multiple layers of clothing, vests full of magazines, ect, ect.

You need a bullet with enough mass to punch through all that shit.

@labartic This is the #1 ammo used by private security forces deployed outside the US! Stop being a double espresso guy at starbucks and get a black coffee at your local gunshop. A single one of these DRT's in 9mm Luger is more Fatal than a M1911 45acp Ball round like the US military uses. You can literally shoot someone in the thigh... and a compressed powder core streamer can sever every vein in your leg and hips. Its like an explosion inside the body!

I personally use a DRT every other round and 5.56 SS109 Steel core penetrators... some guys run dual mags with 30 DRTS/30 Steel core armor penetrators... A 1 shot kill or steel core penetration is a mag change away. Refer to blackhawk videos on here by Todd Jarret showing this EXACT dual mag tactical reload on an AR15...

I'm not sure I understand. They tested this on ballistic gel and it didn't powder and disperse per the claims. DRT said that this didn't work because the gel wasn't at a warmer temp - that of humans or animals. We're seeing this demo but obviously, none of the targets are warmed to human/animal temp.

Keep in mind a persons mid-section is 100% different than that solid block of ballistic gel. We are not built that solid on the inside. the bullet would expand to around a foot with a center mass shot to a person when using the .223-.308 ammo.
