I remember I only got into melb uni arts on the subjective enter score scheme. Was considered a dumb arse and barely passed 1st year. Stayed there for a year... Went to Monash and got distinctions with the opportunity to do honours. Go figure... As for big names, bright lights and 'talent' per se having done the VCA foundations program in film I think Melbourne uni remains a 'dream machine' for conservative charlatans. Inevitably someone is left out..

I am more inclined than ever to believe the VCA should now be fully merged with the University of Melbourne. The woeful grammar, spelling and sentence structure of the VCA supporters here is proof that VCA students desperately need a more rounded education. I doubt they are up to the intellectual standard of the University, however. Perhaps being taken over my La Trobe, Victoria, RMIT or Deakin would be a less confronting experience?

Merging the VCA with the University of Melbourne because of a few spelling mistakes is not a justified. A well rounded education depends on environment. There are educators with outstanding credentials working at the VCA who studied at places like Latrobe Uni. Eg, Tony Gould pianist and composer was awarded his Phd from Latrobe uni and studied at Melbourne Uni (bachelor). Obviously he found the Latrobe experience conducive to his intellectual needs.
