  • Joe Bellino is my cousin. He is a greater man off the field than on the field. He is a great father; devoted brother and a life time friend to all that he touches. I grew up listening to my mother shouting at every Navy game on the T.V. for Joe. He comes from a great family of achievers and athletes. His little brother Mike broke all of his high school records.

  • I remember watching Joe Bellino on TV as a kid. I thought he was just about the most elusive back in history. That fireplug build and low center of gravity made him awfully hard to bring down cleanly. I wasn't a Navy fan and I always feared him when he played ND or Army.

  • I started going to Ga. Tech games in 1960 because my uncle married Bobby Dodd's secretary and she always came through with tickets to home games. Boone ever gave Tech as tough a time year after year than Duke. It was a pleasure to watch them play.

  • I think Duke and Navy would make good annual Conference Rivals if they weren't in BCS Conferences. Then they would both do well annually in Football. But Duke being in the ACC is always in danger of only winning 1-2 games or going winless like they don't a few times in the last ten years.

  • Whats with the crazy Duke helmets ?

  • @suchansyn

Duke's helmets had a padding that ran down the middle of the helmets. Ohio State had helmets like that also.

  • Navy actually had one of the Top Football Programs in the country at one point

  • this is like wicked wierd. its my x bf's dad or grandpa im not sure though lol i think its his grandpa

  • its so funny couse my friends name is joe bellino and this guy is his uncle

  • Staubach was at Navy from 1962 to 1964, winning the Heisman in 1963, his junior year.

  • i thought navy had roger starbach at qb during this time, when did he play for navy?

  • jayfey: joe bellino graduated in the class of 60 from the USNA, taking the Heisman Trophy with him. Roger's breakout came late in the 61 season as a sophmore and he started his last 2 seasons, winning the Heisman and creating some forever memories for my dad and I. it was a great time to be a 12 year old and living near Annapolis. The guy was brilliant at scrambling around and making a broken play work.

  • I was there, as a freshman at Duke. This is just as I remember it :-). But they missed the Duke students bringing the sheared and painted Navy goat out of the tunnel onto the field between the lines of Midshipmen before the game.

  • sweet my dad was a kicker for illini

  • Priceless. Please keep posting. How about some Jay Wilkinson?

  • Those helmets with the padding on top were all the rage at the time. Ohio State and Cornell used them, as well, among others.
