  • I just love this guy. Always have, always will. So smooth. Yes.

  • This song has been butchered, and sorry, he cannot sing. AT ALL.

  • @SerenSeven Come on mate,it is not butchered,it is just another way of singing the song.

  • Miss Teresa Teng (1953-95) covered this song. It was released on a posthumous album.

  • Lovely song

  • EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE !

  • me like this much...

  • me like this furry much...

  • great performer...

  • I know so many people who have never heard of this guy. I feel lucky to know of his music and I think that those of us who know how good his music is, should tell everyone about it!

  • Phantastic Song. Bryan, you are a hero!

  • There's only one word to describe the 'dislikers' - they are "virgins", in a very profound sense...

  • Me encantaaaaa!!!!! que buena versión!!!!

  • Evidently 59 people who watched this video are sad, lonely, loveless human beings.

  • The last song in the movie "Somewhere" is Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by Bryan Ferry. It is fantastic. Very Impressive.

    Now laughing friends deride现在开怀大笑的朋友们嘲笑我

    Tears I can not hide我忍不住我的泪水

Oh, so I smile and say哦,我只好微笑地说

    When a lovely flame dies当爱之火烟灰飞灭的时候

    Smoke gets in your eyes迷雾遮住了我的眼睛

  • great

  • This is pure class... Acts like this are sadly no longer

  • EXCELLENT ! BEST YET OF THIS GREAT CLASSIC.

  • Highly underated singer and performer!! Don't know much about Ferry's music? Do yourself a favor and pick up one of his greatest hits CD's....and I can assure you that you will then start to buy his other CD's as a solo artist as well as when he was with Roxy Music.

  • Wow! Great take on a great song.

  • There is just no way Bryan Ferry can be compared to Tony Williams out of the Platters, Even though i love Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music.

The platters version wins hands down vocally and musically and thats the end.

I know its a very old song pre Platters, Inkspots etc, but the Platters are the ultimate version, and Bryan Ferrys voice is just not suited to this genre.

  • @daveylad911 What genre? This song is an entirely different style to the Platters' version.

  • Yes, the Platters did an unforgettable version of this song, and quite a few other great renditions are out there but I have to say I admire Ferry's knack for interpretation that works for me here, as it usually does. The bottom line is that this song is a classic that can survive any treatment if done from the heart.

  • I love this songI love this DVD!!

  • NOT

  • yes...the truth'when your heart on fire you must realize smoke gets in your eyes'

  • this guy is simply NO MATCH for the original version recorded by the platters !

I am sure he can make himself have an orgasm. . .!

  • @japola5 the platters did a cover of this song and they're not the original

  • @japola5 Wow,wouldn't YOU love to be able to get one at all?

  • came here after watching somewhere, awesome song!

  • Saw BF live in '88 - have never seen so many HOT women have an orgasm at the same time...you could smell the estrogen. Ferry simply melted them - what a performance! Hope he starts touring again.

  • Superb! Brian Ferry must be the only artist whos covers I prefer to the orriginals. Most covers are diabolical!

  • The butchering of a classic....

  • love the version and he's very sexy :)

  • I think ive just met the perfect ideal of a man. oh bryan Ferry. The voice, the cool suave collect gent. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm simon c. who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love Ferry's version. Yes, it's quite mannered and quite idiosyncratic but that's why he's able to make it his own. Personally, it's my favourite of any I've heard starting from way back in the 30s. His version of 'These Foolish Things' is also excellent.

  • Unique!

    Viva Britania!

Prefer his version - think it is much hotter than the Platters'...

  • Unique!

    Viva Britania!

  • Bryan made me love this song - His singing and style - Had it at my wedding :)

  • The late Teresa Teng did a beautiful version of this song too.

  • He really put his stamp on a classic. Good track.

  • My ALL TIME favorite cover that this man does. What a class act....LOVE HIM!!

  • So...british!!!!

    So....perfect!!!!!!

  • Eww gross...

  • @pooie0116

  • This song plays on the carousel in the last chapter, last page of Catcher in the Rye

  • This was playing on the carousel in the Catcher in the Rye, last page, last chapter

  • yuk ! what a hatched job on this lovely song!

  • I have no problem with chord substitutions -- I have my own when I play the bridge to this awesome old tune -- but the ones chosen here completely obliterate the sound of the original. What a disaster.

  • You Butcher! Not the Platters song....EEEEEEEE

  • bow down world for thou art in the presence of greatness

  • Awesome!

  • He was a class singer and probably the best dressed also.

  • God do I love this man

  • una fantastic song.......e fantastica interpretazione di

  • "this guy sucks" i think i can assume ur another fick yank lol. see below, it's called "charisma", and he oooozes it! he's one of the greatest ever: classy, different, sexy songs. if u wrent a virgin id suggest a shag to some of his songs, but thats props a mute point lol.

  • Redefines the meaning of "music."

  • hey , ferry does the definitive version of this classic song first made famous by the platters, i can only assume by your comments that you have a learning disability, that would be the explanation for your inane comments.......tit.

  • Comment removed

  • I was lucky enough to be at that concert, although I lived far away from Paris at that time, it's one of the best concerts I've ever seen, if not the best; Bryan was so charismatic, charming, several songs made me cry rivers. I've got the VHS tape of that show.

I saw Bryan in concert at the Olympia in Paris a few years later, but that concert in 2000 at the Grand Rex with a jazz band was definitely magic. Thank you Bryan for being you.

  • no coments

  • Chai yen reactions beat Chain Reactions , Strangeloves , and Hiroshimas ....seems Ferry joined Owen's hateful genis side , ple beside mania ! The FINAL CUT WAR CHILDREN, BASTARDS !

  • no hay sentimiento en esta interpretacion no me gusto nada , teresa teng lo canta maravillosamente por eso la amo

  • Bow down world for thou art in the presence of greatness!!!

  • A genius. Say no more.

    Great post.

  • Teresa Teng did a beautiful version of this song too.

  • Casi nunca hago comentarios, pero esta vez si : PESIMO !!!

  • I love bryan's version of this song....fantastic.

  • He's matched that arrangement perfectly to his current vocals, hence the applause when he starts singing.

  • Great to hear Bryan. He uses an onomatopoeic use of words that few singers can induce. Thanks for posting!

  • Bryan Ferry

  • very good rendition of an old classic you've still got it Bryan

  • Péssima interpretação!

    Very bad performance!

  • As Mr. Ferry said so... this is another time and another place ... so needn't have to have other expectations... He puts in every song of his own touch of soul and that's what makes him unique and lovable.

  • Sorry, this is not a song that lends itself well to this modern rendition. Listen to the original.

  • Mr. Ferry is a fantastic singer and has had many years of success. Bravo!!!!

  • whos this singer

  • mr cooool

  • clever man bryan, his voice is second to none, sheer quality.

  • ,this man your watching is the top 2 slickest men in music He strols about he,s like snot on a glass door knob, yes

  • His voice is one of the most unique and beautiful there is in the history of whole pop. People just do not like anything that's too

    different, I'm afraid..:)

  • wtf ? my dog howls better to the song than him...bauuh bauuhhhh ...shoul never put that euro pop feeling into it ...it's an ofense...blues are like fado, if you dont feel it it just sounds really really lame....dont mess with htis please

  • Dont listen to it then!!

  • This undervalue the real song - very lost

  • Seductive and sensual.....There's no one like Brian Ferry.....He's still an amazing performer and artist.

  • Super good song...viva Bryan Ferry !!!

  • "smoke gets in your eyes".....should be "frog gets in your throat." I'm Brian Ferry fan, but not here.....

  • ahh man.. he totally just completely butchered a classic!! that's so not cool..

  • song has got sax appeal

  • this song make me wanna cry..

  • Very Good.

    Thanks.

  • Jerry Hall couldn't bear

    to be called Jerry Ferry.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! I love the way he sings it.

    ~melting~:}

  • BF rules!

  • I love Bryan Ferry!

  • Adore exagtly HIS performance of this song!!!

    Fantastic, fabolous !!!

  • i agree fully!! y did they hide all the negative comments? that's dumb.. he really did kill this song..

  • total class

  • Hehe, the drummer fucks it up at 1:47... But what a cheap-ass way they play it... As long as it's easy to digest and if it's done already a infinite times it's ok for Bryan Ferry...

  • Great treatment of an old classic. Cheers.

  • Very, very good.

    Thank you Bryan.

  • what a louzy arrangment!!!!!!!!!!! carppycrappycrappy

  • can this be compared to the platters,,,I DONT THINK SO..!!!!!

  • I love Bryan Ferry, and love is a personal thaang. . . .

  • Former supermodel and current reality TV star Jerry Hall should have married him back in the day (at age twenty she posed as the mermaid on the Roxy Music album cover 'Siren' and Bryan gave her an engagement ring). But Ferry was too old-fashioned for her and she soon ran into Mick Jagger and the rest is history...

  • Seductive and sensual.....

There's no one like Brian Ferry.....

He's still an amazing performer and artist.

  • Bryan I luv u (& luv comes in many shapes :))

  • spoiled

  • to be honest, that was horrendous.

    sorry

  • I agree.

  • the platters version of this is sooooooooo much better... sorry, but it is...

  • You forgot to say 'in your opinion'.

  • Hearing this Bryan Ferry version makes me want to board a ferry across the edge of niagara falls, it's that horrible.

  • Same goes for you.....IN YOUR OPINION.

  • get on with it then

  • i love the way ferry sings this. so he covered it but half the songs out there are covers. truly brilliant artist. 30 odd years on and i still adore this man.

  • It's my fav song by him and he sounds incredible, this guy rocks! :)

  • oh yea

  • Apparently living in a box has clouded your judgement. If you think The Platters sang the original, you obviously don't know much about music, so it's no wonder you don't like this version by Bryan Ferry. Keep in mind this is also live, not a studio recording.

  • The world's burdened by weirdos. One can't swing a dead cat without its legs falling off.
