Great translation, beautifully done.... Pity you couldn't include the subtitles and the original video. I must be honest, this country owes what it is today to all the different people that made it. The Afrikaaners played a major role.... go visit the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria and see the new exhibits that have opened up in the Heritage Centre. Don't forget that the British also played a huge role. We owe most of the mountain passes and much infrastructure to their ambitions!

Dit is besonders om die steun van soveel ander volke te geniet en sal dit graag vervul wil sien. Verder glo ek dat elke burger diens moet doen op een of ander manier voordat hy sekere regte (bv stemreg) kan geniet.
It is special to know that we have the support of so many other nations and would like to see it fulfilled. I further believe that every citizen must do some duty before being granted certain rights, like voting rights as an example.

I am an Afrikaner who has been sitting in Europe (France) for many years now because I couldn't get a job in SA. I am grateful to France, but I realize that at my age I can never be anything but a Boer anymore. My heart pains for my country. I know that these songs are referring to the Anglo-Boer war, but today when I listen to these songs, I think about the murders and rapes in SA and the violence that is taking away our freedom, not the British. The Boers who left hearth and home to go on the great trek could have easily stayed in British-controlled lands and enjoyed a large measure of job-security and relative safety, but they knew they'd lose their language and religion--their identity and ability to decide the arc of their lives would be forever dictated by the British crown. Maybe the Boers who've left will return and turn the tide.

Unfortunately, I fear that there is little hope for the Boers other than emigration. Perhaps Europe could evict a few of the African immigrants that do little but consume welfare and commit crimes anyway, and allow the Boers some room on the continent of their ancestors. After all, the Africans have been more than happy to dispossess whites on that continent while yelling "Africa for the Africans". A little turnabout would be fair play.

the afrikaaner people didn't learn from their own history and the night I took my rank on Magersfontein i saw that around the burning torches of the Afrikaaner and English -speaking forces, there was a sea of Black darkness- and I realized that entire peoples had been forgotten and they too had their history and culture- and 22 years later, thousands of miles from Magersfontein I feel a sadness for the afrikaaner people - as I do for my own inabilty to express myself in afrikaans anymore.
