I only just heard that Ranger Stever had passed away a few years back. I met him as a visitor to Everglades National Park. Went there several years in a row back in the 90's, & to me he was part of the reason I kept returning. His knowledge was extraordinary, helpfulness sincere, & his performances at the amphitheatre touched me beyond words. Just when I was hoping to return to the Everglades, it hurts knowing Ranger Steve won't be there. I'm sure he'll be in clouds over the river of grass!
Has it really been three years? Don't know what to say. Working at a big benenfit tomorrow for another dear NPS friend who is struggling with cancer. Just don't know what live will throw you, so make the most of every day, and try to make the world better as you go. Steve did.
This was a very beautiful collage... it told the sotry of his life. What a wonder tribute. He was loved my many and helped many more. What more can be said of a life well lived. I am sure his family and son will miss him. Some of the greatest being on the planet live relatively un-know lives by the masses.. but his foot-print cast a great shadow on the land that he waled. I remember him playing the trumpet in HS at EB and skipping school to go surfing with Gary Reese.. RIP Steve. Smile.
I knew Steve in the 60's. He had great strength of character, not swayed by others. He was easily one of the smartest people I knew. It would appear that he has been true to himself over the last 40 years. The world has lost a gentle spirit.
