In the UK we can tether but it costs more, basically for the contract (Tariff) you can get a 'Bolt On' that is basically an extra add on for the contract, but it costs more. So you can get a I think unlimited Tethering Bolt On for like £15, that's about $25 - $30.

no the data plans for the Iphone are unlimited I have had tethering for a while and when my data was 6 gigs I just paid the bill. The bill was the same amount as if I didn't have tethering because I have an unlimited data plan and one at&t rep said there is actually no way to charge you extra but with there new unlimited everything plans read the fine print I have a family share with 2 iphones and unlimited data

You can tether with 3.1.2. Use blackrain to jailbreak your phone. Also walmart sells a small Bluetooth adapter you can install in a USB port on your pc and you can Bluetooth your pc with the iPhone and tether without cords connected, nice when you just need to get online quickly without plugging a bunch of crap together

You probably have OS 3.1.2 on your iPhone, which is the latest. What this guy fails to tell you is that it only works with OS 3.0. In his defense, 3.1.2 may not have been available when he made this video.
