If you're wondering why the alpha of Guild Wars looks like WoW, its because the company (ArenaNet) was built by people who left Blizzard because they didn't like the direction the game was going and wanted to make a game that they would want to play.
Thankfully, they hired some artists to revamp the game before they released the game.
so they could stay in this project like this and would have made wow, but they changed a lot and as it was getting better they knew it should be called Guild Wars

Factions felt a little too short, it was very pretty though. My favorite addition to the series was Nightfall because of it's tie-ins with the other games quite nicely (like getting to see the Lich and Shiro again).
might be the fact, that Factions had poor animated characters and voice acting made your ears bleed. But hey, what can you expect? They made it in less than a year :)
true-- I'm more of a person to like environmental additions such as architecture and background music, in which case I thought Factions did rather well, but I totally see what you mean about the voice acting.

the reason they were able to upgrade the graphics was because NCsoft increased the texture and graphics budget dramatically due to huge success and hype, ArenaNet had more money from NCsoft and were able to hire over 17 new graphical artists and engineers.
Actually this is how Guild Wars originally looked. They then got someone to redesign the entire game graphically due to their engine being able to produce much better than this.

Alpha is a early state of game when usually the developers and few selected people are testing the game before the release (alpha comes before beta). Hope that helped. And yes, it is Guild Wars.
Weird, I mean when game developers make a new engine they do it once and then they just polish it. But this game has changed a lot and I think that this is a different engine :O.
BTW, it's hard to believe that Insomniac Games used Resistance engine making Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and they are two very different game franchises.

It's quite interesting, really. I never knew it looked like this. Does look like WoW a bit :-). As for GW2, 1 thing that I hope they don't bring in is higher than lvl 20 levelling, I love the way that everything is based on skill and co-ordination, not hours spent killing the same thing.
It is true what you say, i like the lvl 20 thing to... i don't want to kill someone in PvP for my lvl.. i want to kill someone in PvP for my skills are better.. but the skill cap will be 100 or infinite.

It is true what you say, i like the lvl 20 thing to... i don't want to kill someone in PvP for my lvl.. i want to kill someone in PvP for my skills are better.. but the skill cap will be 100 or infinite.
