  • who is the man playing the steel drum?

  • I remember this from when it first aired. Then almost 25 years layer, I went to NYC for the first time and rode a central park carriage and this song popped into my head.

  • Very cool

  • I love how he picks up on the rhythm of the horse and applies it to the steel drum!

  • Steel drums originated in Trinidad during the second world war, while I was growing up there I was always proud to watch this clip on sesame street!

  • I am so happy to find this! Even after all these years I often hum this tune to myself. Thank you for posting!

  • I stilllove the drums, my best friend is a drummer for TUF

  • Wonder what the horse carrage driver thought but the drum playing?

  • Sesame Street was genuis...so simple but somehow so perfect for kids' growing brains. I know my brain soaked up lots of good things from this show: Be kind to others; share; play; dance and sing; be good to animals; eat your veggies and cookies...!

  • I loved this...still do!

  • loved this as a kid and still do.

  • Woooooooooowwwwwwwwwww, it's been like 30 years since I've seen this gem. :)

  • I loved this clip as a kid, and now it makes me wanna listen to Bob Marley! ;-) God I love being a musician!

  • @druidkat7

What instrument do you play. I tried the piano and the guetar in my younger years.

  • Awwww this brings back some memories when I was a kid

  • Sesame Street - before it became the moronic Elmo Show..... all you have to do is watch the Christmas Eve On Sesame Street special to see how far we've fallen....

  • @blackkey1976

I think one very interesting question to find the answer to would be which does this generation hate more? The character of Elmo or reality TV!

  • this rythem is so peacful and spritaul! the best way to releive stress!

  • I may be wrong, but I seem to remember a longer version of this film, that showed pile drivers pounding to the rhythm while the drums repeated the refrain. At the very end, the guy reiterates how the whole world is full of rhythm.

But I'm very grateful to see this clip, even if it is the short version. That guy had an absolutely wonderful smile.

  • To this day, whenever I hear a horse trotting in a city street I hum this tune. Haven't seen this since I was a kid.

  • Oh gosh. I remember this one so well. I had my own "toy" steel band and I used to play it every time this came on. Great to be a Trini!!!! There was another clip where they showed how to make a steel pan. Gotta find it.

  • Classic Sesame Street!

  • I wonder if the horse was feelin the rhythm. An interesting discussion to have, animals and music.

  • Sounds like vacation :)

  • Used to wonder why the smallest child didn't get to have an instrument....

  • @MayoKitty7 thank you very much.. yes we are a great nation and love it

  • the steel pan of my nation TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO where the steel pan originated..

  • @mrscvsmooth And a great nation, indeed :D

  • Two people are Elmo's evil disciples.

  • Sometimes I watch these old sesame street clips and wonder where these people are today and what they're doing....

  • Was this segment shot in a Caribbean country?

  • @67nairb, you asked if this was shot in a Caribbean country. This was filmed in New York City. That's Central Park they're riding and walking through. The beach scenes were probably shot next door on Long Island.

  • omg..I used to LOVE this one!

  • Ther one person who has no riddim mon!

  • Oh my goodness, the memories this brings back. Sesame Street is so wonderful!!!!

  • I remember feeling so proud as a child whenever I saw this... It didn't matter where it was filmed, I was simply proud to be a Trinbagonian!

  • @trinvani trini 2 d bone

  • you know, you just don't see a guy walking around the city playing a steel drum on a daily basis !

  • @ProfessorIgor Especially with a kid by his side, keeping rhythm on a tom-tom!

  • @quirpco Sounded like a snare drum to me....

  • YAYYYYYYYYY! Please keep these coming, Sesame.

  • Wow, what memories...Thank you again, Sesame Workshop, for taking this clip out of the vault!

  • Oh yeah early seventies

  • The white man driving the horse carriage is like "what is this so-called 'rhythm' thing I keep hearing so much about"?

  • @ObsessedFantage12 Let's just enjoy this without thinking about him and the modern day show.
