Loved the concert last night in Mountain View! I kept yelling "I love this song"! Only critique is they didn't play long enough because Night Ranger and especially Foreigner played long.
I don't care what you guys think. Arnel is SPOT on, and even though I never SAW steve, comparing what I see on YouTube and what I saw last week live, Arnel is a WAAAAY better live performer, by far. I do, however, prefer Steve in the recording studio.

It was unbelievable. Bouncing around all over as Arnel does is quite distracting and does not add to the performance IMO. Plus, Journey just isn't Journey without the voice who made Journey famous. What is going on these days is a good imitation, to those who are okay with imitation. To many, imitation just isn't good enough. Good enough is never enough IMO.
I've been a Journey fan for 30 plus years. They have had a few guys who have come close to sounding like Perry but, not quite. My husband posted this video on my FB page and I was floored. I really thought they coerced Perry into coming back until I say it was Arnel Pineda. Even then, I was taken back! Journey has been through a lot of lead singers through the years. It's taken a lot of singers to convince me they're the Journey of old - I miss Perry but, I'm damn happy to hear Pineda.

i am comparing the two singers and i think one difference is that Arnel might be a half or a full note lower in the songs... but mostly i think it is due to Arnel has only been part of Journey for less than a year when most of these videos were recorded... keep going arnel... close enough and plenty good enough for me to listen to your continuing the work that Steve started...

No one should say that Arnel can't sing. Obviously Journey picked him for a reason. But he was picked to replace a legend. No one can match Steve Perry's amazing and clear voice. It just will always seem weird someone else singing the songs he helped create.
Seriously... great voice! Why should a epic band stop making good music cause one of the former singers left the band? So god will, my children will be able to see them still playing, when they are old enough.
Pineda is good, not gonna deny it. But to compare him to Steve Perry AND say that he is better, shows absolutely no brain activity. You can't beat the original, only attempt to break even. The fact that Pineda is even willing to try to fill big shoes is enough for me to respect him. However, Steve was, and always will be, the best singer of all time.

@txlastrebel Arnel is good, and should not be called names. However, nobody can compare with Steve Perry's vocals, stage presence, showmanship, emotion, and just pure magic. Those who say they are the 'same' apparently aren't that musically inclined.
