  • i remember living near here as a child and my family were on a new housing estate.. loads of these things living in the footings of the houses.. we used to play with them.. it became a big part of my childhood. all long gone now......

  • Our pond in SE Cambridgeshire supports a large number of Great Crested Newts. Several ponds in this area have them, as well as palmate newts. However, we have no frogs as the GC and the Smooth Newts sucked out the spawn when we did have some. I even made a newt-proof enclosure for some spawn and the subsequent tadpoles. But even they were eaten once they had to be released. We have had no frogs for three years now.
