lidocane is not a steroid but very common local anesthetic. If they use lidocane IV it would most likely be to treat a dysrithmia. The most usual steroid they use in an acute case is something called Dexamethasone(decadron) which is a steroid, and a nebulized brochodilator like Albuterol or Xopenex. And depending on the severity they may even administer nebulized epi. I work in a peds office and usually that is the protocol
You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I m 17 yrs old, and have chronic croup. Its a long story, but I have several chronic health issues. I have a possibly turminal disease. But I don't want anyone feeling sorry for me. To learn about me, PLEASE read my channel. I use a ventilator to help me breathe. Thats a special tube that goes down your throat into your windpipe.
Hey thanks for your comment. I saw your page and a few videos. You are an awesome kid. I wished everyone had a personality like you. I will pray for you and your health issues. My grandmother sleeps with a CPAP machine (I'm sure you know what that is) My son had surgery for sleep apnea when he was four. That was a tough surgery but he has recovered and no more sleep apnea (without breath). Hey keep your head up because God is watching over you and your inspiration to help others.
Thank you Speaking of surger y I have had about 25 I THINK. Maybe 27.
I lost count at 20.
That may KIND OF seem like a lot, but its not for me. It could be worse. I am in the hosptital as I speak. Have been for five weeks. I got off the vent yesterday, but had to go back on.
I have sleep apnea. I know ALL ABOUT CPAP. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.
My son had adenoidectomy, tonsilectomy and tubes in his ears for the second time all in one surgery. He is now 9 and that was 5 years ago. He is hearing impaired in his right ear due to scar tissue and such. Hope you get to go home soon. I will pray for you! At least you stay positive and keep your head up!
I sympathize with you there. The feeling of suffocation is like no other. How were the paramedics able to get your throat to open up? Did they inject you with an anti-inflammatoy steroid?
The IV was a steroid to reduce the inflammation in the throat to allow for breathing. The mask was forced oxygen to re-oxygenate the lungs because after such an epsiode, the body is fatigued and the blood is starved of oxygen, so you may feel light headed. It happened to me and I came close to collapsing and I am 5'11" and close to 200lbs, so you can imagine how much oxygen I was deprived of to almost pass out like that.
I did my homework and it's a common medical practice to administer a steroid to reduce inflammation, such as lidocaine or cortisone. My brother in law is a doctor so I have learned a few things simply by listening and learning. There is a lot of information on the web about it and all you need to do is a bit of googling and you'd be amazed at how much you will learn. Information is all around us, so make use of it. I'll be seeing my doc tomorrow and he'll give me some antibiotics likely.
its an infection by the parainfluenza virus affecting kids primarily between the ages of 6 months and 6 years. Its characterised by a harsh loud barking cough often resembling a seal bark. Symptoms include coryza, mild fever and a hoarse voice.
I used to get this all the time when I was little and now I get frequent bronchitis. I actually have bronchitis right now, lol. Damn small bronchii...
My first croup attack was when I was 3 and they put me in an oxygen tent instead of giving me oxygen. Your nephew is so cute, and I hope he doesn't get croup attacks frequently.
Hot showers can help break up the mucus, but, strange as it sounds, freezing cold air also helps. So does drinking really hot or really cold water.
I don't know to much about croup, but I have it.. I am starting to throw up blood.. It hurts so bad.. good luck with your nephew hopefully he doesn't get what I have.
Croup is no fun at all. The only thing that helps it is standing in a very hot shower, nebulizer or sit outsit in the cool night air. Sometimes standing over boiling water helps. Sorry to hear you have it, get well soon and take care of that croup cough.
Cold air works for me too. If warm/humid air doesn't work, sitting in front of the freezer might help, or drinking cold water or gnawing on ice chips.
You must have something different...I don't think I've ever heard of anyone throwing up because of it, unless your throwing up is stress-related. I'd get a second opinion.
I'm 35 and have exhibited these same things after an attack...coughing up mucus and practically gasping for air when trying to inhale. I'll be seeing my doctor soon, but I am sure they have antibiotics and other meds they can prescribe to get rid of this. I noticed these symptoms with the changing of the seasons at first thought it was a minor case of bronchitis, but after having an attack in the middle of the night, I knew it was something more serious.
Usually people outgrow it because their airways get larger.
The scary part is waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to breathe, cry, speak, etc. I had that happen to me the few times I remember.
He is doing great. He was over it in about 4 days. He has had it one other time. My son has Sleep Apnea and he has had a tonsilectomy, adnoidectomy and tubes in his ears twice. I know what you mean to have alot of health problems. My little girl on the other hand has no health problems. Thanks for commenting on my nephews video.

I had chronic croup until I was 8. Treat it asap, because I left mine unattended and it turned into severe asthma.

Usually after an attack, the child throws up mucus because they have struggled to breathe for the length of their attack x
