Awful ,so deadly boring and unexpressive and mechanical and flat .The only redeeming feature is he plays in time.Other than that ,Sollscher is horrible ,really shit. There are no dynamics ,accents ,vibrato or any kind of expression.
@poupee58 Thank you for your comments! You've got something there.....Furtwängler, Dutoit, Knappertsbusch, Bernstein, Mravinsky, Klemperer, Rattle & Stokowski...... They have individual style and personality. Sollscher's one of a kind. You will be good to hear a variety of playing styles.
It's not at all deadly boring - I think Goran is among those that believe the music of Bach has the power to stand proud by itself and that the musician should't add a lot of interpretation and colour. Listen how different Angel Romeros version is - not worse or better, just different and with more ego.
i respect your opinion. now a discussion about taste is often a waste of time, old romans were of that when they stated « one shouldn't’t discuss about taste or color ». i’ve been in concert by j.williams 3 times, including one this year. the australian maestro deserves his reputation, yet when he plays bach i can never get that feeling of quietness and peace inside whereas with g.söllscher or j.feeley i’d just forget about time and space.
from Jose' Sepulveda, the Hermeterec....hey! you guys are right! I had never even heard of Goren Sollscher before today, but he really DOES respect the tempo of the mighty Chaconne better than anybody else I have ever heard perform it. His version demonstrates no pyrotechnical flourishes at all, though, and as a consequence lacks the dynamic excitement that versions such as those by the Romero brothers or John Williams exhibit. Goran is VERY good but this comes across as a little flat.
I believe this version to probably be the best on youtube. Others, like Williams, Bream, Segovia, Brouwer etc don't respect the tempo and sort of 'make up as they go'. 5 stars.
Yes indeed, this is the composition of a true master and a challenge for all who play its many passages so demanding of the player.Playing all the notes is one thing but without interpretation of their standing in the piece it is diminished so much. This is a fine interpretation and rendering of the piece and the guitar and accoustics are most complimentary. This performance and the one by my fellow countryman John Feeley are both excellent....Greets from Ireland..
This upload deserves far more comments as it has right now, it is a dazzling piece of music and has so much tension, one of the greatest pieces written ever in human history
i've seen göran söllscher live many times: he is a true maestro. why people don't comment his excellent performance here? my guess: watching a motionless picture for ten minutes or so isn't enticing...( compare with J Feeley's rendition video edited by mihaicucu78)
Rather a cold, dull, emotionless performance.

@Michajeru Chaconne was Bach's musical epitaph for his first wife, Maria Barbara......cold...indescribable loneliness....
Sollscher is not a guitarist. Sollscher is a musician.
