I went to school for 8 years with the lead singer, Mike, at St Williams (St Willies). I had Sister Robard and Miss Coughlin as teachers. Mike was /is a great guy.
I saw this band 5 years ago at Groezrock when I was 15, they played this very song. I recognised it from a demo-CD and I went into the tent to chek it out and damn it was awesome :). Definitely going to chek them out again this year at Groezrock!
derrrp.. This band sold out.. This band didn't.. This little band had roast beef, this little band had none... and this little band had a shit fanbase because they aren't happy to settle and talk about anything above comparisons, all tryin to seem like some in-the-know guy who can tell ya a thing or two from their birds eye view of the world. fuck off
This is a totally brilliant album, loads of great songs. My favourite has got to be "Fighter". The Dropkicks went crap after Mike left for sure. Al Bar was great in the Bruisers and I agree he should have went back to them long ago!
God this was such a good album from Mike and the Street Dogs. Mind you I thought he ruled when he started Dropkick, but this album was amazing and the newest one is in the Savin Hill vein. Anyone who says the songs are crap must like crappy sell out punk, man this is the working class songs with heart and soul. Like when Al was with The Bruisers, if any of you know The Bruisers.
@oregonflatland the murphys would not exsist without the the greatness of this one man.
so lets get it straight, murphys = soul'd out
the music will never have the power that mike gave it, and if you think that al barr can even hold a candle to THE ORIGINAL then you my friend are sadly sadly mistaken.
the music on this and any other street dogs album holds more truth and power to the working mans struggle than any dkm album ever could minus do or die.
well i don't doubt it. i'm not really a big fan of either band. mike definitely has the working class roots but DKM definitely appeals to a much broader audience. it doesn't seem like a lot of bands are singing about the working class anymore. rancid did until they sold out and now they drive around in a fuckin mercedes with tila tequila. their last record was a steaming pile of shit.
@gwarfan1point5 Dude... me and my mrs on our 1 year anniversary with a bottle of champagne, a bag of pot and throwing ice cubes out of a hotel window at people walking by on the 8th floor :) Thats what we're doing listening to this!
haha saw these guys in concert before off spring in dallas, they were alright, except when the guitarist with the black hair came down into the pit, people kinda reacted and started pushing up on my friends and i in the front row, we accidentally knocked him over when we pushed everyone behind us over =P
I'm telling you, you're crazy. Leave it in your iPod or whatever and keep listening.
They'll all grow on you. For my money "Declaration" is the best song on thhe album, about Britney Spears getting the cover of Rolling Stone the week after Joe Strummer died.
And "Cut Down on the Twelfth" a song about Mike's girlfriend dumping him by phone on 9/12/01, as his fire crew was headed down to help out at the World Trade Center. sunset
declaration is pretty good. it sounds exactly the same as an oi song from korean band rux that came out the same year. rux is a great band you should check out. way better oi songs than street dogs. except for this song. mike does write good lyrics. he is true working class with real experience not a fuckin rock star like rancid.
no, Its just that Dropkick hasn't been the same since McColgan left. I love the Murphy's, but they severely lack the genuine emotion of Mike. The Murphys are still aces but their direction has become bit erratic. DO OR DIE
I love Mike's voice, but it does not show that much emotion. I mean if you see him live you can see the emotion, but otherwise I think your wrong. In alot of ways Al Barr's voice has alot more emotion, but thats just what I think.
Boston music rocks - but 26 in your face, go yanks - iI mean that in good fun, 2 best teams, thats baseball!!!! But rock on murphys, bosstones and darkbuster, NYC loves you guys!
I own that hat Mikey's wearing in this in this video : )
