This part of the game was the most physically and emotionally taxing. After walking through four (or five) death gauntlets of scarabs as they beat the hell out of you, you then have to envoke Snake's undying will by tapping triangle to get him through the longest and most painful hallway of his sacrificial life. I think I speak for many when I say I fell to my knees just as Snake did when it was over. Legendary game.

I was never able to actually play this, only watch compiled cinematic-ish videos of it. The juxtaposition of this with Sunny making eggs has got to be one of the most indirectly macabre things I've ever seen in this medium.

I've experienced firsthand how much its three predecessors enjoyed the "mash a button really quickly or else" mechanic. Was this the most demanding? Because even speaking as someone who never touched a controller in regards to this installment.... it should've been.

Pointless scene. Snake went through all that then didn't even do anything, The Mark II or whatever the robot is called did all the work. People say Snake was there to defend the robot, but the robot could've just sat there in stealth mode doing all the work then left

The only problem with your theory is that the MK III can't use its stealth mode and interface with other machines at the same time. If you notice all throughout the game, the MK II or III can't do both at the same time. Case in point, on Shadow Moses, the MK III can't unlock the door leading out of the Nuclear Warhead Storage Facility while in stealth mode.

TO EVERYONE WHO IS WONDERING ABOUT SNAKE'S PRESENCE IN THE "GRAVEYARD" ROOM:

Think about it. If Snake did not go through there, then the MK.III (the robot) would have been destroyed by the Scarabs, which are the robots with three hands for feet. The MK.III is completely defenseless when it's in the process of uploading the virus; it can't use its wire to shock the Scarabs, and it can't turn on the stealth camo.

@JesseGibb I thought that at first too, but if you think about it, if Snake wasn't there, those scarabs would have torn the Mk III apart before it could upload the virus. It can turn invisible and electrocute enemies, yes, but being invisible wouldn't have done much good as it would have to link with the system, making it very easy to locate. And I doubt that MINOR shock attack would do much against that swarm of scarabs. He had to go through to protect the Mk III from defenses.
