Pack running isn't bad, but I don't agree with the faster runners waiting for the slower runners to pack run with them. The fast runners should run their race and the other team members should use them as a good race pace gauge and motivation to try harder.
I'm not sure what teams of four he's talking about either. Champ races enter seven to eight, the top five auto-scoring. Ties are broken between two or more teams with the sixth through eighth. Pairing up is a good idea, but there's no reason to stick in twos. Pack running is the concept he's struggling with, and it includes as many runners as possible - even a pack of multiple teams.
He really looks like he's trying to explain something he doesn't understand. "Expert Village" does it again.
Well sometimes you can cough something like "push it" but thats it. we alway lost each other in the beginning trying to get rid of the huge pack and saw each other back in the field and pushed each other with words like "keep up" and we just said it one time, sometimes never, because looks were enough and we pushed it and did good.
ok running in a gruop is a thing ur supose todo , or with a oartner cuzz then in the end u can get ur top 5 up ther to win for u. but if u r talking, ur not doing a good job. u shoudnt be able to talk.
hey do you think I'll be able to compete. I can only run 2 kilometers max and in 9 minutes. I can probably run 5k if i pace myself. school training starts in two weeks. i train hard on weekdays and rest hard on sundays. any help would be appreciated.
i try to keep all thoughts out of my head while running. but then again, sometimes you must think while running but just dont let negative thoughts occur
really to have good mental capacity i just think about band of brothers saying stuff to myself like "it could all be over if you walk... nice and comfy for those not so strong". that usually gets me motivated to keep running.
running in a group is one of the smartest things you can do in a race but it starts at practice. Push the slightly weaker runners to keep up with you. While doing intervals allowing a slower runner to lead part of it teaches them to run in the group and push harder. My coach always says "be uncomfortable" which means you are running a race, you should not feel great and that you should always reach for the lead pack if you can. It is much easier to run in a group.
the partner thing actually does work. ive found that if i run with someone in a race that's faster then me, then i push myself to go faster and try to finish with them. but a BIG part of it is communicating and stuff during the race. i know its hard but it helps.
the only bad thing about partnering up is that it makes the person whos a little bit faster think that they have to stay with their parner, which is not true at all. they just havt to keep encouraging them.
when he says partner up it means to like push eachother like push foreward and have your fellow team member move up creating a pendulum in a sense. one moves up the other hguy behind and he moves up of course you are not sprinting but gradually speeding up
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
First off, you spell shouldn't and practice wrong. Idiot. Second, I have never met any slower "peeps" keep up with the faster ones. The faster get faster and the slower get slower. Our varsity guys run 15:20-17:53 for the 5k and we RARELY run together. (Only during a simple 5 mile recovery)
This guy's too buff to be a cross country runner. He probably runs a 20 minute 5k. And running as a team is irrelevant when you're competing against 300 others. You'd only slow eachother down
WRONG. Not as a team. Cross country is a race against yourself. If you think as a team as you run, your going to be, oh, i can slow down my team because we need to run "together". Stay strong, fight for YOUR best time, not your team's.
uhmm true except my coach says to do your best but run with other people because misery loves company and if your alone it's not as much fun but yea me and my friends run together and talk
You both have your points. I use to run alongside my best friend every single race because we were so evenly matched. We pushed each other taking turns setting the pace. We were always neck and neck until the last half mile. That's when it was a "best man win" situation. We were the top two on the team and actually helped each other run beyond our own ability. Running with teammates is only good to a certain extent in races, but practices are great times to pack up and feed off the team energy.
So far i have seen 2 videos "How to Run Cross Country" and so far Peter have not talked running. WTF have teams have to do with the subject. Im a marathon runner, i run 5-6 times a week, and this is the worst videos i ever seen on the subject. I have never commented a video be4, but this one is so lame.
haha I made a cross country tips video. I'm puzzled as to why you would be watching them looking to learn things if you are already a marathon runner. Then again, I'm sure there is always more we can learn. Personally, I like watching running videos, because running isnt always enough to satisfy the urge. I like to be immeresed in the subject completely!
Um...srry but this guy is completly wrong...the pair thing is the only thing i see that could possibly work...however even if two of the slower runners paired up...who's to say there gonna be anywhere near the pair of fast runners? so... >.>
Maybe next time you should like...oh i dunno...get someone who knows a lil sumthin sumthin about running
lol nice. I think at practice a team begins to break up into separate groups based on ability. Usually, those same groups are prevalent in the races, because those runners are familar with running next to one another and trying to compete and push each other. I think packing up is only efficient if the slower runners cling onto a teammate faster than them and try to use that energy to improve their individual performance.
ok sorry to burst your bubble, but there has to be atleast 7 runners for each team in a xc race. 5 of them score and 2 of them are like tie breakers if needed. and when you train you all run together,NO PAIRING UP, because if you all run together then the last person will catch up to the second to last. then they will eventually catch up to the next runner. ohh and one last thing, you DO NOT WANT TO BE TIGHT when you run, if your tight then you will run much slower with a shortened stride.
A cross country team is composed of 7 runners, 5 of which score points. Since "about 4," is the extent of the info. provided by this segment, I'll include how scoring works. You score the number of points equivalent to your place,(ex: 5th scores 5 pts, 23rd scores 23, etc.) and when the 5 scoring runners' points are added up, that is the team score. The lowest team score wins the meet. The remaining 2 runners are there to add pts. to other teams' scores by beating their runners.
video summary:
4 runners on a team (what...?)
if you can go faster, dont (what...?)
stay positive (now were talking)
talk to your teammates while you race (oh wait, nevermind)
