My uncle got one of those for Christmas a few years back, and my little brother was watching him open it. And my uncle as a joke put the lamp in the front room of the house where the lamp could be seen by all the neighbors, and we went into the kitchen to put up the left-overs and when I came to the front room to put up my gifts, I saw my little brother rubbing the leg up and down, like Ralphie did.

My husband and I love this movie, it's been a must-watch every Christmas since it came out. Several years ago we invested in one of these wonderful leg lamps, and it's the first Christmas decoration we put up (in our front window) the day after Thanksgiving. Our neighbors have gotten such a kick out of it that they bring their friends by to see it.

It didn't come from his job. He entered one of those prize sweepstakes drawings and won. So it was the numbskulls at the company that held the sweepstakes that got the dimensions wrong. BUT I guess that is creative Movie Making License for you. The large box just ads more drama to the film (for first time watchers). How MAJOR could a Major Award be if it is in a tiny box, but something in the size of a refrigerator? That gets the viewer wondering. It's just classic, I watch it every year.
