  • Gawd! As the youngest 'Ted' in Manchester, I remember fighting with punks and others on Market St,. in Mcr on Saturday afternoons.~Then off o the match!! (confusion~no!, Wanting a taste of everything , yes!). Stranglers still favourite band and are playing next month at Manchester CAd!! OOoo Wee!!

  • JJB cool hair!! no shit honest! :-)

  • Christ, I'm so old! What happened to us? Oh, yes, life did!!!

  • The little prechorus part at 0:24 is very John Lennon-y with the echo

  • The reason I got into Punk and New Wave was seeing this video on TOTP in 1977.

  • this music inspires me, music of today.. not

  • queria a musica do Pes 2009 não essa merda véia

  • Asombrosos!!!!!.....son únicos estos cabrones hijos de puta!!!...dios bendiga la madre que los pario :D.

  • fucking amazing

  • lol at the builder at 1:26

  • Wow, that sounded almost like the doors, so brilliant the stranglers innit

  • Love Hugh and the Stranglers forever!

  • greenfield.. greenfield.. greenfield.. 1:51 to 2:18.. possibly the best 27 seconds of stranglers vinyl.. i think i need to lie down now..

  • What a technical drummer ! A freak indeed.

  • @TheReverendRaver , I agree. And seeing David Greenfield's keyboard playing on this video made me realize how under rated a keyboard player he was. But since they were perceived to be a punk band, most musical snobs would assume they didn't know how to play their instruments. Same thing happened with the Dead Kennedys rhythm section (East Bay Ray, Klaus FLoride and DH Peligro) as well as Black Flag (Henry Ginn's anarchic guitar playing).

  • My favorite stranglers song .

  • @TheReverendRaver absolutely agree!

  • @oblongfan Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne can

  • aaaahh ..i love hugh :) i met him last night at his gig in glasgow :D he signed my ticket and i got my picture taken with him.. he was sooo sweet :D <3

  • vevo needs to straighten out!

  • Can't believe how good this still is.

Someone nicked my Stranglers 'video' a while back, I'll have to go on Amazon and get the DVD version.

  • what other fucking bassist out there can beat JJ .none NONE i tell you

  • It is "what a fate for little girls,British boys minds in a whirl", not world

  • Shaamee theey got old :'( </3

  • @PooTillYouWin

shame they got a new singer

  • @projectno5 Yeaah >:(

  • Foot note to last post, it was London Uk

  • This video was filmed in the ' Penny halfpenny Steps' just off the ladbrooke Grove railway bridge, I know this because my youger sister bunked off school to see them

film this . She was given an autograhh signed by the bass player Jean Jack Brunnel , it stated ' Big Licks Collette ' jean Jack Brunnell !!!

I still have it somewhere in my house it was written on a pice of school exercise lined paper !! ;)

  • Pain in the ass are those "Like a good neighbor" commercials!

  • I love the early Stranglers, especially this song.

  • every one out there fucking straighten out.

  • Hugh's vocal at the end ! you try singing 'straighten out' that many times and see how far you get.

  • 1.03 - The kids playing on the roof. Nice touch - anyone know the technical term for something like that? Think it might be' juxtaposition'.

  • One of my favourite Starnglers songs but then there as so many, far easier to name the few crap ones.

  • @Maxshard: I totally agree. Out of curiosity: which ones were the crap ones you think?

  • @Jeanny1978 Hmm, you've got me there, I'm trying to think of songs I used to skip on the albums and I can't think of any at the moment.

  • @Maxshard: funny, I had the same thing. A couple of years ago I thougt there was a lot of crap from them, but now.... I don't know anymore. Let's just conclude they are still one of the best bands ever I would say, and I was too young at their best time but am enjoying them now. Maybe you or anyone else has ti[s for bying DVD's of them??

  • @Jeanny1978 Go to ebay.co.uk and search stranglers DVD in the main search box. I found Friday The Thirteenth, which is a live DVD of The Stranglers, I think performing at the Albert Hall in London, lots of them available and I also found The Stranglers video collection from 1977-1982. I only looked at one page so there may be more, best of luck.

  • @Maxshard: thank you for your advice. I already searched at the Dutch version of e-bay and also found Friday the Thirteenth, but it's from 1997 and I'm looking for the earlier stuff. But thank you again!

  • @Jeanny1978 Remember, you can sign on to any ebay site in the world using your same identity and password and buy things there, once you sign in, you just need to find a seller who sells worldwide and there are plenty of them.

  • dedicated to Nick Bullock!

  • Just listen to that bass, JJ is a god!

  • @thenuttynick

No Kidding JJ is the man!

  • so far the only song i like by this band is peaches

  • fuck emi!

  • absolutely fantastic song.......always in my top ten..........is that a guildford squat ?

  • @magicspidercat Their squat was in Chiddingfold just down the road from my joint LOL

  • Yeah, it's inspired, braincras. They were very clever these guys. It's a throw back intonation to all those chirpy commercial rock n roll numbers in the '50s like Buddy Holly and Adam Faith. Used on such a nihilistic song, it's a hoot. Bless 'em!

  • So do I............

Made in the days when bands played instruments and sang. Unlike the mediocrity we get now of groups screeeching out of time to the music being played by session musicians unseen and trying to to syncronized jerks (pun intended) out of time and calling themselves a band. It's just characterizes the dumbing down nowadays.

  • I love the vocal effect while he sings "worlds" and "girls"

  • It's a 50's rock and roll singing style parody like Buddy Holly or Roy Orbison.

  • @braincras I always thought it was "whirl", not "worlds". Top song either way.

  • @pmam1968 IT IS

  • @braincras "whirl"

  • @braincras "The Buddy Holly effect"

  • @braincras He doesn't say worlds though.

  • @braincras 'British boys' minds in a 'whirl''? (because of the young girls).

  • I need to Straighten out...

  • @Caligula138

sometimes I feel that I need to unstraighten out

  • @zxxxy of course
