@TheFilmCollectorDude i also think cropping the film to fit the 1.85 aspect ratio frame killed it, enough to make me notice the pencil drawing lines too much, breaking the 4th wall of what I'm seeing that used to look so real, even though it was animated.

This and the colours, shadows - the innocence of beautiful believable animation is taken away. Beauty and the Beast from then on never looked better - literally, after the laserdisc / its birth era.

Does anyone know if the new release will contain the same artwork? I'm really worried they'll alter it like the new DVDs where all the characters dont look quite right.

@SuperMathsBeaver Of course it will be the same artwork, just a little bit more polished and sharper xD, that's just great :D but I wthink it will look alot like the special edition here, atleast the dvd edition of the new version that is coming out noiw

@kikichapstickifilms I like how they restore the classics. But they need to open the Disney vault and never close it again. They have the classics trapped in the vault but leave Hannah Montana, High School Musical, and Jonas Brothers on the shelves at stores.

If I worked for Disney, I would permanently leave all the Disney Channel crap in the vault and have every classic on the shelves. Kids need these kind of movies.

That's right. 10/5/10 on BOTH DVD and Blu-Ray. The movie's also to come back in theaters 2/12/10 in Disney Digital 3D as well as a return in 2D.
