This kid has a more studied and accomplished kicking technique than many adults. I suspect the reasons are in her age, maturity level and the certainty that she has yet to be significantly exposed to nonsense. She has a naturally derived mechanic flow that exhibits naturally generated power. I hope she is being trained by a competent, traditional teacher that will help her continue along naturally derived lines as original karate was.

@dgdbg You obviously have no idea to the significance of belts in karate. They are the equivalent of western trophies. All they show is that you accomplished something. It doesn't mean that you're a good fighter or that you can beat people in kumite. All it shows is that you do kata well. It represents experience and nothing more. So next time someone says "I have a black belt in karate and can kick your ass" just laugh at them and walk away.

@TheMrDuerni The idea of belt colors didn't exist originally.  It was borrowed from judo and in judo, belt colors were the equivalent of western trophies. After adoption, a black belt in karate meant nothing more than a 'license' to teach. Dan is also not a good measure as there are MANY black belts who refuse to accept a promotion that would surpass their sensei out of respect. A karate belt to me is the equivalent of a college degree; it shows that you read your books and did your work but

there are good techniques in the katas aswell but you learn them better in a Fight for training

@TheMrDuerni There is something in shotokan known as bunkai which roughly translates to explanation. It allows people to create their own interpretations of what is being done in a kata. It's an interesting concept but as for usefulness in a modern situation, it's very limited even then. I find it's actually best to watch street fights and dissect mistakes rather than to kumite as kumite puts people under the impression that a real fight has rules.
