Hey OKH I've been interested in doing some track-time. What's the reasoning behind the rules that mandate taped-up lights and removal of mirrors on a bike? Thanks!

@linkysc Removal of mirrors: You don't need them on the track. You shouldn't be looking anywhere except for in front of you/through the turns. No reason to look behind you. They're distracting to new riders who haven't gotten that down. Taped up Lights: Distraction to other riders (early/un-necessary braking causing others to check up, etc).

Whenever I see these vids, I always wonder whats the % of skill vs confidence, and how that factors in to gaining ability.

@DealGoodDr I think confidence comes with skill and skill comes with confidence. For example, I'm going in hotter into corners than I was last year, and I'm totally comfortable doing it. A year ago, it'd be an "ass-pucker" situation. Now, I hardly give it a second thought. And because I'm comfortable at this skill, it allows me to push the envelope a little further, til I'm comfortable there. Repeat, repeat, repeat =)

@coleraby There is more than one turn on the vid, but earlier videos I've been on my Honda. With the exception of Canea's GSXR and Ryan's own bike, we're all on staff bikes, which means "you break, you buy." I'm on a bike that is not mine and I'm still making payments on my own bike, let alone picking up a payment for another, so I'm riding more conservatively here, yes.

I still want to take my 'tard there. That track doesn't look nearly as wide open as HPT. Looks like I'd still be pinned for most of it, though. LOL (Top speed is 80 on my bike.)
