  • One of the best films ever made and Vincent price is superb in it. I adore the man, and he is an amazing actor. This film will always remind me of my brother Donald because I sat and watched it with him in the 70s. I love the music and it always brings a tear to my eyes........my doggies, my doggies

  • This song, like this movie, is a true masterpeice.

  • This is pure poetry . Rivals the music of the greatest composer of all time ennio Morricone!

  • Beautiful music! Very relaxing. I love it.

  • I saw this great movie at the Admiral Twin Drive Inn Theatre, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1977 along with "It's Alive".........a double feature. I remember thinking before that it would be some old black and white chiller, boring, before my time........I was schocked at the gore, but looking back, now at age 44 realize it was tongue and cheek, and respect it for a wondeful movie, great cast and haunting soundtrack.......another film to bring back memories....

  • Truly beautiful!

  • This music is fantastic! Thanks for putting this up!

  • Luv this

  • The music never fails to sends shivers down my spine!

  • LIONHEART: Splended review my dear Snipes....Splendid. What else did you say?

LIONHEART: DEVLIN!! You think you can hide your guilt behind his?!? Maxwell thought so too

  • I'm a huge lover of great horror films and great music....This is both! I have read this was Mr.Price's fav.movie he had done

  • per·fec·tion

    [per-fek-shuhn]

    –noun

    1. The state or quality of being or becoming perfect.

    2. The highest degree of proficiency, skill, or excellence, as in some art.

    3. The theme to Theatre of Blood.

  • What a gorgeous theme.

  • I just try to write a tale called " Der Giftzwerg" (the poison gnome) and this wonderful music and Vinnie help me with it. Theatre of Blood is my absolutely favourite. No one and nothing can reach it ever. Some People say my daughter and myself are mad to adore a death but I think that`s what he wished, to be remembered years and decades after him. RIP Vinnie! And the tears ran down my cheak.

  • So glad you've enjoyed this wonderful music and I'm happy it's helped you in the writing of your tale.

  • @zardoz80

The tale seems to become a book,120 pages now, and the headline is IN MEMORIAM VINCENT PRICE. VP-experts would recognize it at once. The protagonists are Vincent McCrimmon, similar in appearence and behaviour to VP, a murderer and fraud and his deformed brother Leonard both cursed, living in Blackowl castle. Only the true love can brake the curse. And it will be Leonard who does it in a madhouse.

  • Your tale/book seems fascinating. I'm a fan of Vincent Price myself, I grew up watching his movies, so to see him remembered in new fiction and films is wonderful. He's sadly missed but has left us with some beautiful memmories. Vincent Price R.I.P

  • Great soundtrack, great movie. They don't make 'em like that anymore, sadly.

  • LOL, this poster, much like the trailer (and the ones for the Phibes movies) pretty much tells you how the victims die :)

  • thankyou for posting this :)

  • Love this music. Watched my dvd copy last night and had to keep repeating the opening to listen to the music again and again-the Arthur Lowe beheading scene has some really funny music a la 'Dr Kildare brilliant surgeon suffering etc' and Price and Riggs acting in that scene is so funny.

  • One of the finest British Horror films ever made. So many famous faces here in this movie and its also one of Vincent prices finest roles/performances too. First saw this as part of the ATV season of friday night Vincent price movies during the 70's called 'The Price of Fear'. Loved it ever since.

    thanks for uploading.

  • One of my favorite films and what music and cast !

  • One of my favourite films too and what a great cast!

  • ps Thankyou for putting this up. It was lovely to hear it and that there are people who are aware of this film. Are there other films like this one, similar in tone and production out there? would love to know

  • The Dr. Phibes films are in a way similar to this and both star Vincent Price. Definately worth watching.

  • @zardoz80 The Phibes films, particularly the first one are classics but Theatre of Blood should be placed high on a pedestal for its incredible mix of pathos, gore and black comedy. Quite simply one of the greatest and an immense performance from Vincent.

  • I agree, both Phibes films are classics but Theatre of Blood is a finer production. The film has a wonderful mix of gore and black comedy. Vincent Price gives one of the finest performances of his career in the film.

  • What a beautiful piece of scoring for what was essentially a B movie, but oh, what a movie. The magic for me was the use of stunningly beautiful incidental music to accompany scenes of horrific content such as Arthur Lowes beheading, where the music was particularly sweet

Vincent Price and the thoroughly British cast, who for the most part, are sadly not with us now, make this film special. Will never forget the first time I caught this one friday night at about 11.30pm. MAGIC

  • One of Lewis´ best scores and one of a few British Horror scores which had an CD release.

The master tapes for the most scores Zardoz posted here, are probably lost. A shame, since McGuffies melancholic The Asphyx music is wonderful.

  • I agree with you this is one of Michael J. Lewis best film scores. Theres a few other British Horror

scores which have had CD releases.

Yeah, it's a shame that the master tapes for most of these scores are long gone especially Bill McGuffie's score for The Asphyx. I'll hopefully be uploading more soon, so keep watch.

  • At least, I´ve heard that Witchfinder General and maybe The Curse of the Crimson Altar are in preparation of a CD release.

    Thanks for the interesting uploads!

  • Really? Where you here this? This is fantastic news, I'm a huge lover of British Horror and Fantasy Cinema. Love the scores for Witchfinder General and Curse of the Crimson Altar. Both of these would make great CD releases.

Glad you enjoy the uploads, thanks.

  • The rights for both belong to De Wolfe Music, the famous library music company and they planning to issue this in their new CD collection. But there´s no release date yet. It´s a small label, so it can took some time, before the album happens.

BTW: It seems they have also the recordings for The Devil´s Men, composed by none other than Brian Eno.

  • Interesting news. Look forward to this CD if it's

    released.

I have The Devil's Men on DVD, I remember the

music by Brian Eno quite well. The music in that

    film was pretty cool too.

  • Did you know that Mike Vickers´ Dracula A. D. 1972 is out on CD?

I hope that The Satanic Rites of Dracula will follow soon. Love the main title theme by John Cacavas.

  • Yeah I did know, I own the Dracula A.D. 1972 soundtrack CD myself. Really love the soundtrack

for that movie with all the funky 70's guitar riffs.

I'm hoping The Satanic Rites of Dracula soundtrack will be released too myself.

When the soundtrack to Dracula A.D. 1972

was released last year. I met the man responsible for releasing the Hammer soundtracks. He told me there working

on a Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde CD. Can't wait for this release as I love the music from the

    film.

  • Yes, it seems that BSX is working on last unreleased and surviving Hammer scores. Before GDI closed down, I´ve heard following scores were planned for release: Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde The Satanic Rites of Dracula Camp on Blood Island When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth - complete Crescendo Hands of the Ripper Demons of the Mind Moon Zero Two Countess Dracula and I´ve heard also rumours that the tapes for the shortlived Hammer-series survived.
  • Interesting, I know some of these titles where up for possible CD releases but not all. Do you have the Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter CD as that's

    a really good film soundtrack.

Apart from the Hammer scores, I would love one day for a CD to be released of Douglas

Gamleys music for Amicus films but the

tapes for those I Imagine are long gone.

  • I fear that´s case. I´ve never heard of a release of a Amicus score, despite John Scott´s The People That Time Forgot, but that is re-recording.

Gamley´s music for The Land That Time Forgot is wonderful. Great how he sets the tone in the main titles. The music made the movie much darker, as it really was.

  • I wasn't aware The People That Time Forgot CD

release was a re-recording! I presumed it was

original. This is new to me.

Although Gamley did often repeat his music cues in the Amicus films, there still very memorable. I agree the score for The Land

That Time Forgot is indeed wonderful. I've

always loved that film but it gets so much

unfair critism, it's a really good film.

  • I think too, that this is good film. True, It didn´t have Harryhausen effects, but it has a wonderful atmosphere and Doug McClure was good in it. And we have Susan Penhaligon!. ; )

    But the sequel was awful.

BTW: Another fine Gamley score is And Now the Screaming Starts.

  • I find it's a film of two halfs, first half WW1 Submarine drama, second half prehistoric adeventure. Yeah, the special effects are

not too good but thats a minor issue. The

performances from all the cast are very good,

particulary McClure and Penhaligon like you

say. The sequel was indeed a letdown I agree.

And Now The Yawning Starts haha, that's my

title for that film. Actually it's not too bad really,

    the music's nice.

  • Yeah, Screaming is little bit hysterical. : )

To be true, Amicus was at it´s best with their omnibus movies. I still have to see Torture Garden.

  • The original title for that movie was Fengriffin but the producers changed it to appeal to the horror

    loving audiences.

I agree, Amicus was best with the anthology films,

From Beyond The Grave is my personal favourite. Torture Gardens a fun film.

  • Been cool chatting to you, keep a watch out for future uploads.

  • Yeah, Beyond the Grave was the one with David Warner?

I also love Asylum which had the greatest cast. How they get Charlotte Rampling in this?

  • Yeah, David Warner was in From Beyond The Grave.

Asylum is another cool film with a superb cast.

Charlotte Rampling was just starting her career

when this film was made in 1972.

  • Would love to see the one with Kim Novak, which is very rare here in Germany.

I fear have to stop for today, , I´m looking forward to your next postings. : )

  • What a magnificent score!!! One of the top of all times. Perfect upload!
