@MrRaiders6769 The 98 should have 40 to 55 psi at idle. After you turn the car off watch the gauge for five minutes pressure should drop no more than 8psi.
Some people put Teflon tape to stop the gauge from leaking fuel in the test. What my question is do you use the tape bye warping it around the treads of the gauge before its screwed in or is there another way?
i just bought that gauge. does it work well? do you think it would last. i know some people said the gauge fills with gas. I was wondering is that because something was done incorrectly?
Two things: One, be sure to know whether your fuel pressure specification is key on, engine off (KOEO) or key on, engine running (KOER), as they will be different readings. Secondly, be sure you're connected to the fuel pressure test port and not the evap port (usually a green cap or tag).
Also, not all vehicles have a schrader valve test port. Most domentics do, but Asian and European cars typically require adapters and removing the fuel line or hose at some point.
hey i have a problem with my 91 Lesabre and im thinking it might be the fuel pump. but before i make the decision of changing that i want to test the fuel pressure so i dont waste money. how much are those tester things? and is getting a pressure gage goodm so u can have it lik eon ur dash or window panel?

Hey, i like the videos you do, i have a question. I have a 99 satrun SL2 with a SOHC engine in it manual trans. When i drive the car it seems excessively loud, and it runs fine but at around 70mph and at higher rpms in second and 3rd gears it seems like when you step on the gas the car does not accelerate...any ideas? I would appreciate your thoughts.
@Starsmuse I was thinking clutch slipping but it does not sound like it.One other thing i was thinking of was the catalytic converter or muffler being partly blocked.
I have an 86 Olds 88 Royale Brougham! And I wonder if this might be a problem with my fuel pump, relay or blown fuse? Every time I accelerate my car either stalls or losses power while accelerating, I thought it was that i was running out of fuel went to the gas, added like 4 or 6 gallons of fuel and tested it for over 5 miles and the car stalled at least 8 times!
You dont even need to use a fuel pressure gauge. If you have a portable tire compressor with a pressure gauge then you can use that as well, if mine can easily fit then yours can too.
I tested my fuel pressure today on my 1999 SL2. I tested it with the car warmed up, and it went right to 50 psi. I turned the car off and it instantly went to 46psi, then afer 5 minutes it was at 38 psi. Is this right?
just bought the harbor freight master kit on sale at $70.gauge broke within 2 days and 3 uses.someone on google says only buy hand tools from HF never anything with a gauge,I wish I followed his advice.well at leasy HF never hassle you with the refund.just bought the Actron CP7838 from autozone and it works perfectly.
I test my '98 Dodge Intrepid and the fuel pressure was fine while the car was running, the bleed down did not hold pressure at all, it goes right to almost zero. What's the next step to troubleshooting the fuel pressure?
@MrRaiders6769 Thank you very much for the clicks. What year make and model car are you working on.

@Starsmuse When the car does not accelerate what is the tachometer showing. High rpm or normal rpm for the speed you are going.
richpin06a 1 year ago
@richpin06a Well it depends on what gear im in, it usually acts up in 5th gear around 70mph and it runs around 2000-2500 rpm range.

@789546123 Normal pressure on a 98-02 s-series is 47 psi. After you turn off the pump watch the pressure decay. It should not exceed 8 psi in 5 minutes

BobbyCSNF 2 years ago
Find and replace the check valve. Most are part of the fuel pump.
richpin06a 2 years ago
Would that be the same as the fuel pressure regulator/fuel filter? I got the Chilton's book and it doesn't say anything about a check valve. Thanks.
BobbyCSNF 2 years ago
It is not the same.
