I've looked at the graphs though, and I'm not expert but the revenue has been going down steadily. I think that's bad.
@GregariousGorilla , COH/COV is in no danger of closing up shop. If you log onto the freedom or virtue servers you will always find people. Please have new tilesets. If I have to look at one more warehouse, I'll scream. It's going to take alot more than two new powersets to get me to resub.
When I played WoW, I always felt like I had to look everything up online and learn how to play it before actualy playing it. I've never once had anyone get upset with me for not knowing the layout of a particular TF or the prpoer aproach to a hami raid in CoH. It seems to me that the core players are much more into experiencing the game than gaining power, and recent game content has reflected this.
@darthbeandip most of us on the game are about having a good times and have made many friends in the process, i don't think any other mmo's community can compare
A lot of people are whining about GR of even the CoX games in general. That's fine, no one's making them play. Personaly, I'm thrilled by the new expansion. For me, additional options are the best part of these games, and that's the focus of the new set. And new low level content is prefferable for me, because I can play it with new toons, or go back and drop my level with my maxed toons if I want. I don't mind the booster packs either. They give cool perks, but don't break the game.
Content to actually make running through the first twenty levels interesting and fun... and apparently accessible to solo players or pick-up teams, at that (!!!). Not a bad thing
And what kind of superhero game player doesn't want to create a menagerie of radically different characters? CoH already excels at that and this new add-on only avails even more creative options.
I honestly don't get the criticisms. Sure, the graphics aren't designed to cripple all but the latest hardware, but they're more than adequate now (if you played CoX before and it's been awhile you may not realize how much the visuals have advanced, a few little fugly details aside).
What others are pointing out here about the game content is also true -- more than any other MMO CoX piles on the content. But players have a strong tendency to actually avoid all the real content in favour of power-leveling and farming repetition (the most popular application of the Architect Entertainment player-created content features, btw). That's not the developers' doing.
I personally enjoy comfortably repetitive activity sometimes (it's the long, boring 'traveling' missions that annoy me). If that really puts you off, though, then (A) Going Rogue appears to be providing alternative ways of getting through those early levels that you should be happy about, and (B) you should stop rushing to join every 'AE farm' and 'radio/newspaper mission' team that comes along!
I am so excited for this to come out. I've been playing CoH/CoV for a little over a year now after playing WoW for over a year and I am thoroughly impressed with NCSoft. Not raising the level cap is genius, you don't have to relearn how to play your character every few months when new content is released. And it gives you the opportunity to try out different class combinations without a super long commitment. NCSoft ftw!

yeah good luck with that expansion ....but city of heroes was better when cryptic was running the show .
but now cryptic and city of heroes sucks ass.
they shouldn't have split ...it's like they are some one hit wonder band with paragon being the wannabes harping on the past that could't cut it on there own and crpytic is the pompus lead singer that fails and goes broke and is nothing without its band members.
@clugzo What are you talking about? COH has improved vastly since Cryptic left the scene. Power customization plus the countless features that the community has asked for have been implemented as opposed to Cryptic's idea, which was that they were going to do whatever the hell they wanted and the playerbase should just deal with it.
the servers "for villain side and some heroside" are barren after architect edition due to people exploiting the system and basically killed teaming .
issue 13 totally ruined pvp.
more care has been made in producing stupid "costume packs" than actual issues and as far as the issues they have been really content light basically fluff.
this going rouge is crap too do they seriously think this expansion is gonna draw people to the game
because the big draw "hype" is being able to switch sides and play the exact SAME CONTENT that's there now.
gee wow i can go through Praetoria and be a hero or villain! ...oh wait what's stopping me from doing that now.
what's funny though, i liked at the end of the video posi harping on CO ...yeah posi you put in the architect edition and guess what it sucked ass and your no longer the big cheese war witch is so get a clue.
@clugzo Shut up, troll. They're adding new powers, zones, and a way to switch sides. It's a lot for us roleplayers, who enjoy feeling the comic-book-like adventures that CoH can bring. I have many characters that are, in story, neutral, and are leaning over to one side, but not there yet. Or ones who are PURE good/evil, and would make an interesting villain/hero (E.g. KingCrazy, Matt Grave...).
If you dont like GR, thats fine, no one said you had to (Like Darthbeandip said), but stop trolling.
@KingCrazy9 Don't feed the trolls. Trolls are attention whores. The only thing that truely frustrates them is when their BS goes unnoticed. By responding to them you only show them that here are people that will get angry and play into their pitiful need for attention.
@KingCrazy9 No. He's a troll. And idiot. A douche bag. Nothing you say is going to change his mind about anything. All you're doing is giving him the attention he craves which keeps him coming back and saying more to get you pissed off again. You're pissed, and he's sitting there laughing at you. That's why you don't respond to trolls. If they can't get anyone pissed off, they move on to somewhere else to spread their misery where they CAN get someone pissed.
Looks like more city, some of the new maps look pretty cool but would it kill them to have some outdoor missions or a cool zone like shadow shard that's not dead. >.<
@patrice86 May not be what you want, but my husband is really looking forward to the subway-type area where the Ghouls will be. And who knows--they may be holding out on us by not showing other maps. I don't think they've discussed the Incarnate system much in these diaries... maybe they'll have the maps you crave? :)
You should try playing world of warcraft if you think coh has too much repetition in it. Coh is the one game where you don't have to raid the same freaking dungeons over and over on every character just to make your character(s) powerful enough to move on to the next dungeon.
I fail to understand how someone could prefer doing that over and over on every character as opposed to spending earned money on crafting your character enhancements.
To add more to my post below. My advice to new and existing players is to stay away from newspaper and radio missions if you hate repetitive or generic content. Only do those until you can do a safeguard to get a contact. Because its the story arcs that the contacts give that are the more unique content.
If you're only doing radios to level you are only punishing yourself.
Pick different contacts on all of your characters so gameplay remains new
What makes City of Heroes ALOT better than World of Warcraft? Simple: No overpowered 12 year old doing 'gearchecks' and using 'Recount' to see my DPS.
@beastrhino1 Oh! I suck at WoW because I have a life outside the game and aren't judging people by their gearscore? I had a pretty average gearscore before I quit and I've seen people who had REALLY great gear but sucked at playing. So remember that it's NOT the gear that makes the character, it's the player that does. With that being said... Piss off.
@beastrhino1 You are a PRIME example of these losers who judge people by gearscore. You think you need UBER gear to prove you are a l33t WoW Player? Seriously, get a life.
Also, to everyone ******** and moaning about having to make a new character and play the game again, shut your pie holes. Another point of this game is the huge replay value it has.
Alright you dumb little **** suckers, listen up and listen good, I have been playing this game for over 5 and a half years now and it will never get old. Each month that 14.95 is well spent. To those saying that the costumes suck, go screw yourselves and go choke on the verbal diarrhea that comes out of your noise holes! This game has more costume options than I can count and sure, some of the combination's are kinda crappy, but only if you want it to be that way.
@KnightofIronStar You are absolutely correct. By the way, I can't reveal my characters name or what server I play, but I used to go to the old Hami raids back in the day. I'm friends with Spark-1. I like to bring up the raids with him now and then just to hear him say.. "Gah.. Drama". :)
how ya been you crazy ass, and I'm with ya, the better mmo i do believe.
and the costumes are great, so much better than having to spend boat loads of what ever monies is called in which ever mmo and of course time to get my toon to look the way i want 'em to.
and for those that don't like, piss off and go play wow or aion or somethin'
@KnightofIronStar ,Judging from the level of your post it comes as no major suprise to me that there is a limit to the amount that you can count ^^
Besides the problem with the coh costume creator isent the amount of options you have to dress your char, rather the limited options you get to personalise your hero, for the month i played champions i had a crawling hero with an asymetrical costume,i play coh for the friends i made,i keep leaving becouse of the limitations they put on my concepts ^^
@KnightofIronStar I also play Champions Online alongside CoX, and I have to say, CoX Is much better in content and customization, but Champions wins out on combat, simply because you never have a wait to recharge your energy. I think CO also has better graphics, but in it's own way. CO is the smooth, comic-esque cousin of CoX, whereas CoX has realistic looking textures, but I've always been disappointed in the character's body and face. Very static. Each to their own. But both of them beat WoW.
@KnightofIronStar amen! there are literally, as that developer said, BILLIONS OF COSTUME OPTIONS! that is not an exaggeration! u can make the most idiotic, joke of dumbass-looking hero/villain you want or the most hardcore, badass-looking hero/villain with the huge amount of costume selection options that this game provides. if you're unable to do so, then you clearly just suck ass at making good-looking costumes.
Playing villain ATs with hero content would definitely be classified as 'new content' for this expansion, or at least a new way to play existing content. I think it will be interesting to have a MM in hero-only TFs and Tankers for villain SFs, etc.
God dam I hate you guys. Just when I think I'm finally out you come a long and pull me back in. Glad to see my beloved Masterminds finally getting a new primary though. Guess I will need to try and find me some monies to buy this thing. Might have to sell those fancy pins I won in the valentines day contest you guys had awhile back. Oh who am I kidding, I could never sell my beloved pins.
@ivie6969 Looks like a hell of a lot to me. As for the bitching about the costumes, I agree and disagree. I hate seeing official videos of the game when they have chars that look like some one just hit the random button a few times and went with the results. Take ten to fifteen min to design a theme for the char and go with it for Christ sake. It makes the game look bad when people who don't play it see crap like that. It's not hard to make cool looking chars. I used to make a dozen of them a day
No new gameplay makes this just look like a fancy faction change with a price tag. Ive played CoH and CoV. Being able to swap characters between the two doesnt give me new gameplay experiences from what Ive already been playing for 2+ years.
@Gadzooks42 No new gameplay? Did you miss the part where there's all new level 1 to 20 content and for those with level 50s the first of the Incarnate levels? I suggest you read a bit more about GR before stating there is no new gameplay coming with it.
@coelhobuda Clarification on my part. There seems to be no new gameplay involved with being able to swap factions with existing characters for players of both CoH and CoV. As you pointed out, there are other things that add gameplay that arent tied to switching factions. (not sure how many people really care about 1-20, a lot of people try to level past that as quickly as possible.). The hype about "going rogue" however seems to be predominantly tied to switching factions however.
@Gadzooks42 Did you even watch this video? The entire video from begining to end was all about new game play. It's not a light switch, you actually have to play thew new story archs in order to switch sides and there's whole new zones filled with new content. Side Switching is not the only new thing about Going Rouge, there is in fact TONES of new game play.

OK, but where's the Power respec's? So, the players get charged for new character slots and have to remake a character every time! IMOA...thats not "Innovation" (a change in the thought process for doing something or "new stuff that is made useful".) Making character's over and over again is not Innovation....thats money making...Oil Style! Oh, the costumes in CoX are really crapppy also! JMOA though....!
Respecs: Vet rewards, recipe drops, Trial rewards, and purchasable respecs. What more do you want? Char slots are also awarded as vet rewards if 131 free slots weren't enough.
Power respecs: No, they're not going to let you take a toon to 50 and then respec into other primary/secondary power pools. Ever. Unlike certain other games, there are multiple leveling paths. So it's not like running up another toon with new powers (which you need to learn how to play) is all that tough.
@PhotonHerald Why? Because people like yourself say so? lol Give me a break man, this game has maybe 100k to 200k (Thats being nice) and will NEVER do that? Crappy way to think, so everytime theres new content...make new toon...BORING! At 14.95 a month, we should be able to respec power pools!

There are respecs to change what powers you have and how they're slotted, and they're obtained for free by running a mission arc or buying them on the player market, in addition to several other ways. Unless you mean that you want to change the power sets the players have... In which case you have well over 120 character slots that are FREE. It's not "making money - oil style" - it's giving players an incredible thing for any game: Replay value!
@playa844 IT'S BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE TO REPLAY CONTENT OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Damn, why doesn't anyone get it? They NEED to make a power pool respec! Simple!!!!
this game is the best mmorpg out there so if your not on it get on it

When I played WoW, I always felt like I had to look everything up online and learn how to play it before actualy playing it. I've never once had anyone get upset with me for not knowing the layout of a particular TF or the prpoer aproach to a hami raid in CoH. It seems to me that the core players are much more into experiencing the game than gaining power, and recent game content has reflected this.

ManticMan 1 year ago
What others are pointing out here about the game content is also true -- more than any other MMO CoX piles on the content. But players have a strong tendency to actually avoid all the real content in favour of power-leveling and farming repetition (the most popular application of the Architect Entertainment player-created content features, btw). That's not the developers' doing.
ManticMan 1 year ago
I personally enjoy comfortably repetitive activity sometimes (it's the long, boring 'traveling' missions that annoy me). If that really puts you off, though, then (A) Going Rogue appears to be providing alternative ways of getting through those early levels that you should be happy about, and (B) you should stop rushing to join every 'AE farm' and 'radio/newspaper mission' team that comes along!
ManticMan 1 year ago
I am so excited for this to come out. I've been playing CoH/CoV for a little over a year now after playing WoW for over a year and I am thoroughly impressed with NCSoft. Not raising the level cap is genius, you don't have to relearn how to play your character every few months when new content is released. And it gives you the opportunity to try out different class combinations without a super long commitment. NCSoft ftw!

yeah good luck with that expansion ....but city of heroes was better when cryptic was running the show .
but now cryptic and city of heroes sucks ass.
they shouldn't have split ...it's like they are some one hit wonder band with paragon being the wannabes harping on the past that could't cut it on there own and crpytic is the pompus lead singer that fails and goes broke and is nothing without its band members.
clugzo 1 year ago
@clugzo What are you talking about? COH has improved vastly since Cryptic left the scene. Power customization plus the countless features that the community has asked for have been implemented as opposed to Cryptic's idea, which was that they were going to do whatever the hell they wanted and the playerbase should just deal with it.

@S7ilver your kidding right?
the servers "for villain side and some heroside" are barren after architect edition due to people exploiting the system and basically killed teaming .
issue 13 totally ruined pvp.
more care has been made in producing stupid "costume packs" than actual issues and as far as the issues they have been really content light basically fluff.

because the big draw "hype" is being able to switch sides and play the exact SAME CONTENT that's there now.
gee wow i can go through Praetoria and be a hero or villain! ...oh wait what's stopping me from doing that now.
what's funny though, i liked at the end of the video posi harping on CO ...yeah posi you put in the architect edition and guess what it sucked ass and your no longer the big cheese war witch is so get a clue.
clugzo 1 year ago
@clugzo Shut up, troll. They're adding new powers, zones, and a way to switch sides. It's a lot for us roleplayers, who enjoy feeling the comic-book-like adventures that CoH can bring. I have many characters that are, in story, neutral, and are leaning over to one side, but not there yet. Or ones who are PURE good/evil, and would make an interesting villain/hero (E.g. KingCrazy, Matt Grave...).
If you dont like GR, thats fine, no one said you had to (Like Darthbeandip said), but stop trolling.
KingCrazy9 1 year ago
@KingCrazy9 Don't feed the trolls. Trolls are attention whores. The only thing that truely frustrates them is when their BS goes unnoticed. By responding to them you only show them that here are people that will get angry and play into their pitiful need for attention.
MostlyPerfect 1 year ago
@MostlyPerfect Oh, so you think what he was was 100% correct? You LIKE people bashing CoH?
KingCrazy9 1 year ago
@KingCrazy9 No. He's a troll. And idiot. A douche bag. Nothing you say is going to change his mind about anything. All you're doing is giving him the attention he craves which keeps him coming back and saying more to get you pissed off again. You're pissed, and he's sitting there laughing at you. That's why you don't respond to trolls. If they can't get anyone pissed off, they move on to somewhere else to spread their misery where they CAN get someone pissed.

LOL at repetitive gameplay whines:
You should try playing world of warcraft if you think coh has too much repetition in it. Coh is the one game where you don't have to raid the same freaking dungeons over and over on every character just to make your character(s) powerful enough to move on to the next dungeon.
I fail to understand how someone could prefer doing that over and over on every character as opposed to spending earned money on crafting your character enhancements.
Will continue post

LOL at repetitive gameplay whines continued:
To add more to my post below. My advice to new and existing players is to stay away from newspaper and radio missions if you hate repetitive or generic content. Only do those until you can do a safeguard to get a contact. Because its the story arcs that the contacts give that are the more unique content.
If you're only doing radios to level you are only punishing yourself.
Pick different contacts on all of your characters so gameplay remains new

@KnightofIronStar ,Judging from the level of your post it comes as no major suprise to me that there is a limit to the amount that you can count ^^
Besides the problem with the coh costume creator isent the amount of options you have to dress your char, rather the limited options you get to personalise your hero, for the month i played champions i had a crawling hero with an asymetrical costume,i play coh for the friends i made,i keep leaving becouse of the limitations they put on my concepts ^^
Battusai1984 1 year ago
@KnightofIronStar I also play Champions Online alongside CoX, and I have to say, CoX Is much better in content and customization, but Champions wins out on combat, simply because you never have a wait to recharge your energy. I think CO also has better graphics, but in it's own way. CO is the smooth, comic-esque cousin of CoX, whereas CoX has realistic looking textures, but I've always been disappointed in the character's body and face. Very static. Each to their own. But both of them beat WoW.
Meshehetube 1 year ago
@KnightofIronStar amen! there are literally, as that developer said, BILLIONS OF COSTUME OPTIONS! that is not an exaggeration! u can make the most idiotic, joke of dumbass-looking hero/villain you want or the most hardcore, badass-looking hero/villain with the huge amount of costume selection options that this game provides. if you're unable to do so, then you clearly just suck ass at making good-looking costumes.

I used to make a dozen of them a day
crusader8463 1 year ago 4
No new gameplay makes this just look like a fancy faction change with a price tag. Ive played CoH and CoV. Being able to swap characters between the two doesnt give me new gameplay experiences from what Ive already been playing for 2+ years.
Gadzooks42 1 year ago
@Gadzooks42 No new gameplay? Did you miss the part where there's all new level 1 to 20 content and for those with level 50s the first of the Incarnate levels? I suggest you read a bit more about GR before stating there is no new gameplay coming with it.
coelhobuda 1 year ago
@coelhobuda Clarification on my part. There seems to be no new gameplay involved with being able to swap factions with existing characters for players of both CoH and CoV. As you pointed out, there are other things that add gameplay that arent tied to switching factions. (not sure how many people really care about 1-20, a lot of people try to level past that as quickly as possible.). The hype about "going rogue" however seems to be predominantly tied to switching factions however.
Gadzooks42 1 year ago
@Gadzooks42 Did you even watch this video? The entire video from begining to end was all about new game play. It's not a light switch, you actually have to play thew new story archs in order to switch sides and there's whole new zones filled with new content. Side Switching is not the only new thing about Going Rouge, there is in fact TONES of new game play.

OK, but where's the Power respec's? So, the players get charged for new character slots and have to remake a character every time! ivie6969 1 year ago
PhotonHerald 1 year ago 5
@PhotonHerald Why? Because people like yourself say so? lol Give me a break man, this game has maybe 100k to 200k (Thats being nice) and will NEVER do that? Crappy way to think, so everytime theres new content...make new toon...BORING! At 14.95 a month, we should be able to respec power pools!

@ivie6969
