@matthewseamusirv hi chief, from what I've read its partly due to the ovation magnum he plays cos its an older guitar giving a lower tone as he finds new bass's to be tinny.I tried to recreate his sound and the closest I came was to use an epiphone eb-3 the bridge humbucker turned low with medium guage flatwound strings.Flatwound as opposed to roundwound will give you a more "dub" sound, finger play as oppossed to pick as well.Hope this helps.
I had the privilage of meeting Jah a few years ago.Hes one of the nicest guys Ive ever met.Hes also the best bass player i have ever heard.Jah Wobble you rock my world!
I've played bass professionally for ove 20+yrs. In all kinds of Styles. And Mr. Wobble is one of my top 5 hands down!!!! More Bass players need to learn how to merinate in the groove then just slap the shit out of their instrument. Thanks for posting this!!
who is this guy? i just searched the best bass line and this came up! any way he is not that good! Who likes a bassest who plays root bass most of the time! Trust me i would know i play bass!
Who is this guy? He's Jah Wobble (John Wardle) one of the best bass players ever playing a diverse range of styles in his 30+ year career. Buy some of his music, listen to his style and shut the fuck up stupid boy! Now back to the naughty step with you....
Yup you're just young bro, I guess he was way before your time. As a Young Bassist I bet you've heard of Flea, RHCP Bassist.
Ask him to Mention who he thinks are his top 5 Bassists. I'll bet you my 4 Guitars and my Bass that Both Jah Wobble and Jaco Pastorius will be in his list.
I'm a bassist too bro, trust me on this if you're serious about getting any better then playing some cover songs here and there start learning about the old masters.
I've been a fan of Wobble since those heady days with PIL. I remember catching him live in the 80s at about the time when he first went solo - it was a Wednesday night at the long defunct New York club Tramps.
Bill Wyman & Jah Wobble(with PIL Songs) are my favorite bass players of all time!

I don't really play like Wobble (who does?)
But I am so influenced by his deep tone.
I always turn the BASS up on my bassamps and then cut the treble a little. Truly great bass player he is.

what song is he playing?
mikosh1234 3 years ago
Sunset Gun (a song he did with the band The Damage Manuel)!
