i can do it. :-) we have a museum locally that has the full blown flight simulators in it. they got fighter jets too. you can link up with others and dog fight and stuff. its 20 bucks an hour but its so worth it. :-)
@6250valtra Well, since it's Nasa I would assume it's actually ESP, but if you look at 2:16, you can see the flashing red banner on the bottom left side that says "Paused", which is as far as I know a trait exclusive to MSFS (or ESP, if you prefer). Also the game engine is identical to FSX, that includes the environment and the ground textures. Even the graphics effects are the same. It's either Microsoft FSX or ESP (a more realistic, corporate/testing version of FSX).
@rokyfox its not about age, my fella :) Smartness isnt measured by age.. my 70 year old grandpa doenst know how a plane flies. you know because you reserched about it :)
he didnt.. even a 3 year old baby can reseach that and who knows he'll learn!
Landing gear is usually always next to the engine throttle by default in any airplane. Its a 10inch long stick, How can you miss it. It didnt surprize me that he failed, it surprized me how badly he failed.
if im inside a real plane with them being the captain and co pilot about to crash,i will open the door, take my stuff, jump out of plane with my parachute..lol :D
@Tecwhizz got to love sim pilots. Actually for VFR you dont use the Artificial Horizon (blue and tan thing) much at all. That is for IFR to give you a horizon when you don't have one due to weather. You would also use quite a lot of other instruments, mainly the Alitimeter, Vertical speed indicator and the Airspeed indicator.
I know it's no their fault, but being a semi-educated sim pilot, I just get annoyed while watching this! For example, Adam used the rudder pedals during approach. NEVER DO THIS unless undertaking crosswind approach to straighten up on final. It can tear the plane apart. And the gear lever (Not button), that's the big pokey stick in the middle, Pull the lever, Pull Down. And finally, when using VFR, Look at the instrument with the blue and tan thing. Left is speed, right is altitude. The thing i

There are literally dozens of call outs for airlines to choose from. The factory airbus one doesn't sound like an American and the call outs themselves are slightly different. Pretty much for that reason, an Eastern European pilot might have less trouble hearing it with an English accent rather then a Mid-Western American one!
I hav actually been on one of those and it is not $30 software. Everything u see on the screen is all real things and everything is placed where it is in the real world. I crashed everytime but then again I was like 7. I got to ride it because a friend of my dad who worked at the airport and worked with those machines owed my dad a favor. They are extremely realistic.
Me to I have done it so much I dont even bother with with trying to use the radio',s and dmi anymore I just eyeyball it and make the bot planes move out of my way!
he's flying in an actuall simulator, complete with hydraulic actuators that move the simulator around, according to the movement of the aircraft (banks, climbs, dives etc)
whata that? is he flzing a full flight simulator with hydraulics on? or a hommade cockpit with with FSX? or a full flight simulaot with FSX? I guess the last one is impossible.
Yea, its mainly designed to train procedures not "stick and rudder" skill. It does do an OK job but its not like flying a real plane IMHO. However, its great for learning where all the switches are and see how you react in emergency situations (i.e. practice procedures).
The only problem is that ATC personell don't have any flying experience. Very few are even licensed to fly small airplanes. You would have to find a NASA instructor somewhere in the country and have him talk you done. However, for sure, ATC isn't going to be able to help you fly the airplane.
I can see landing with ATC help, it wouldn't be perfect, but it would be safe. There is no way that was a commercial airliner cockpit. I bet he could land a real B757 or an A330 sim without difficulty.
I can see landing with ATC help, it wouldn't be perfect, but it would be safe.
It would NOT be safe, in fact it would be highly unlikely. I think you have been watching too many Hollywood movies or perhaps you thought "Airplane / Flying High" was a real life documentary.
I grew up with airplanes and actually had a pilots license that I let lapse, oh well, and don't see what's so hard about flying a plane. As I said I've flown many simulators and could land em no sweat, but I say again that was NOT a commercial airliner cockpit, no airliner I know of has a sidestick, they're a yoke, almost like a steering wheel. It's Harder to oversteer a yoke than a stick.
yes, i'd prefer flying with a yoke too. the stick just seems so flimsy, especially if an emergency occurs and the pilot has to manually override the fly-by-wire system.
You would think so. However, the first time I flew with a stick it was amazing because I didn't even think about it. The stick is so natural you don't notice the difference. It was later that it was pointed out to me that
Possible if... like in mythbusters the ATC personnel guiding the aircraft is a NASA checkpilot, and he/she is current on the equipment (aircraft) that needs guidance, and also be able to verify the landing configuration of the aircraft (like the control panel in the simulator) which ATC does not have. Important also to note that all other traffic in the aerodrome will have to be rerouted to alternates.
ATC doesnt need much flying experience they are not the ones doing flying. ATC only needs communication skills because they are the ones directing traffic. Flying a plane by yourself is frustrating, usually a co-pilot would handle all the necessary items on the dashboard as the pilot does the flying. FSX is good simulator for anyone seeking fun.
i can definitely land........and i'm 11..............i can in FSX, so why not a giant flight simulator?
