These players are good alone by themselves, but when you get 4 together, the styles clash and you get a mediocre performance.

The sum is lesser than the addition of all the participants in this case and almost all the time when they try to have a "satr studded" cast of characters on stage performing a piece together.

I think I've discovered this piece a week ago now, and I listened this piece at least 30 times after this discovery. Due to the splendid performance I must listen to this piece at least once a day. Especially the second part, Largo, is beautiful.

It's wonderful to see these musicians together. I enjoyed the performance; however, there were problems staying together - even starting and ending movements at the same time. I guess they didn't worry about spending much time rehearsing it. Still, it's great fun to watch those geniuses play. Bravo for doing this project at Verbier.

Anyway. I think there is quite a SMALL difference between 4 violins and 4 pianos / harpsichords. And before you do the transcription you have to risk it. And Bach risked it and succeeded. 4 violins are nice but nothing special.

This is a Vivaldi concerto though (in a Bach arrangement) ;-) You should listen to 1) the original for 4 violins (Op. 3 in B minor by Vivaldi), and 2) the Bach transcription for 4 harpsichords, not pianos... Cheers!

The slow movement is very difficult to play in the same timing for all 4 pianists. And even they failed in the beginning. So a conductor would have been helpful but there isn´t.

@darkworld8 Who knows? Maybe yes, because some years before his death, he played on Silbermann pianos. First he was reluctant because of the harshness of the keyboard, but after Silbermann had brought major improvements on the keyboards, Bach really enjoyed them!
