This helped out big time! I was out of town working when my girlfriends alternator went out. I gave her this link and she was able to change it herself with me on the phone walking her through it also. never heard hercuss so much about her knuckles...lol.. great job!!
@1aauto thanks for the tip, i found out that the battery was malfunctioning so i got a new one (got it replaced) and now its as good as new. Thanks so much for the video, helped a lot.
i watched your vid then replaced alternator on 1996 ranger 4 cyl. placement of alternator is a little different but steps are basically the same. great video!
Any videos on how to replace an alternator on an '02 Escape? It seems like it is going to be a huge P.I.A!! Even some pointers or tips would be amazing.
i just replaced the alt on my 98 mountaineer. your tutorial helped out alot. The 3/8in tensioner oully was super tight so i nudged it just enough to slip the belt off and
this wasn't exactly how I had to replace the alternator on my 02 ford ranger but it was close enough and it got me to do the job myself which saved me time and money. Thanks!
@1aauto I have a 1999 Ford Explorer 5.0 V8. That space to reach the square tensioner slot is so tight; nearly impossible to see. Then, there is what I would identify as the radiator hose being right in the way. It is a direct obstruction. What can I do to get past this roadblock, so to speak?
Thanks a lot, very detailed and helpful.

Why would you take the belt all the way off? It adds two extra steps .
1:removing completely and then
2: having to reinstall.
lughead6 1 year ago
@lughead6 True you do not have to remove the belt fully, but if you do the information is there to get everything back together.

@GSnugg You might have to push the radiator hose out of the way, or possibly even remove it.
