Wow! Paya Lebar Airport looked great! Wonder if the interior has changed much after all these years - hope they allow the public to view the airport again!
Paya Lebar to Changi. Singapore has come such a long way. Just as Hong Kong has from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok. Both are miracle citeis. Both are magnificent in their unique ways!
wow..paya lebar airport..it is now turned into military airbase.i was serving my national service in this airbase in the 1990s and just went back again in 2009.
Its the same though..nothing much..but its a now a restricted military area.
Great! Are you planning on uploading any more scenes from Saint Jack? I was thinking of that one filmed at Boat Quay (Empress Place?) - where there used to be that open air eating centre (hawker centre?) Or some of the scenes showing the exterior of the old Prince's Hotel Garni (where the Crown Prince Hotel is now), or perhaps one of the last scenes showing the Senator walking along Orchard Rd past the old Forum Hotel and into the Hilton. The whole feel of Orchard Rd has changed since those days
For anyone that is significantly interested in the making of this movie, I can strongly recommend that you read "Kinda Hot" by Ben Slater, which was published about 3 years ago. Also, there have recently been several blogs regarding Saint Jack, including some interesting comparisons between scenes in the film and present day Singapore - all on the "Yesterday Singapore" website. These are all in the March 2009 archives.
There were also several scenes filmed (inside) this old airport for the Hawaii Five 0 television series - a double episode called "Year of the Horse" - which were filmed entirely on location in Singapore. Coincidentally, it was also filmed in April 1978. Which does explain why (former one time James Bond) George Lazenby appeared in both Saint Jack and these episodes of Hawaii.
Great to see that someone has finally posted some scenes from this movie. I'm a big fan of Saint Jack - have watched it probably 30+ times. I am intriuged mostly by the on-location scenes of Singapore (like those shown in your video) when compared with what they look like today. It is amazing the contrast between Paya Lebat Airport, in April/May 1978 when this was filmed, and the current Changi Airport - the first terminal of which was opened in 1981.
