  • Absolutely brilliant movie.

  • Bcket is one of the greatest movie ever made for some one to out there and say this is an awful movie makes me wonder what such a person may consider a good movie may be its the generation gap

  • @RichardElden I'll assume you meant Armageddon.

  • Beckeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • btw...BECKET DIES

  • when men were men, and movies were scenes of people arguing back and forth without any action set pieces to really push their worst fears. looks damn good though, truly.

  • Great as Burton was (and he was), he's put to cartoonish shame by O'Toole's performance here. A spectacular (even if, as is standard Hollywood routine, woefully short on historical accuracy) jewel of a film. It stymies the mind to wonder what Juan considers a good film. Armageddon? >|D

  • IN BED IN BED IN BED

  • Why couldnt Richard Burton look like this in ANNE OF A THOUSAND DAYS?

Also its interesting in this movie he oposses the king and in anne of a thousand days he is the king.

  • @happypappy4437 Both were overlong and boring films with stilted dialogue. Burton was much too small to play Henry VIII.

  • My favourite play. But maybe I would prefer Burton as the King and O'Toole as Becket :)

  • @glishev Becket had to be the older man.

  • A remarkable film. A must see rental. It won 12 Oscars and was nominated for TWENTY-TWO. I recently rented it and was amazed by some of the greatest acting I ever saw in any film.

  • @39rc6cf The least deserved Oscars ever.

  • @JuanMacready, you have as much appreciation of the arts as does a wild boar.

  • @39rc6cf Becket was a boring, studio-bound piece of shit with stilted dialogue. I'm glad the talentless wooden actor Richard Burton died at only 58, pity it wasn't from lung cancer.

  • @JuanMacready, you're sadistic comment classifies you as a first rate fuckwit with as much class as a rat. The only way you can look into a mirror without becoming ill is by wearing a blindfold.

  • @39rc6cf What did you think about Burton's attacks on Churchill?

  • @39rc6cf Are you an idiot? This film was only nominated for 12, and it won ONE.

  • @prattals , you say that being nominated for TWELVE Oscars is chopped liver? Are you crazy? Every producer, every director hope for such a thing. When you go to a theater or watch TV, do you wear eyeshades and earplugs?

  • @39rc6cf I'm not saying that it was a bad film. I am saying that you need to get your facts straight. You said that it WON 12 oscars, which is bull shit. It only won ONE. Don't insult my film intelligence, because you obviously don't know what you are talking about. And not all directors or producers want to make a film to be recognized by the academy awards, just the superficial ones. Real film-makers make films to express emotions and beliefs, not just to win awards.

  • @prattals,sir,in the USA, the Oscar nominees were Edward Anhalt,Richard Burton,Peter O'Toole,John Gielgud, 4 for best art direction,Geoffrey Unsworth,Margaret Furse,Peter Glenville,Anne V. Coates,Laurence Rosenthal,Hal B. Wallis & John Cox. Thats 12 categories.Edward Anhalt won an Oscar. It was nominated for another 23 Oscars both outside the USA and by minor organizations within the USA. And you minimize the power of that film? You have to be a total horse's ass. It was a magnificent film.

  • @39rc6cf There are no other Oscars outside of the USA. It was nominated for 12, and it one one. It's as simple as that. And minor organizations don't have the right to nominate a film for an Oscar when they don't have anything to do with the Academy Awards. Please stop arguing with me, because you really don't know what you are talking about. And once again, I will say that I'm not saying the film is bad, I love the film, but get your facts straight and learn how to read comments.

  • @prattals,you must be nuts. When I wrote OTHER ORGANIZATIONS I was referring to: American Cinema Editors, USA;BAFTA Awards;British Society of Cinematographers;Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain;Directors Guild of America, USA,Fotogramas de Plata;Golden Globes, USA;Laurel Awards;National Board of Review, USA;Sant Jordi Awards &Writers Guild of America, USA. These are chopped liver, you flaming idiot? Ther world recognized the greatness of "Becket" & you're in the dark. Jesus, you are STUPID.

  • @39rc6cf The Golden Globes are not Oscars. You just proved my point. Just because it was nominated for other awards, doesn't mean that Becket was nominated for more Oscars outside of the US, as you stated. Stop this bitching and whining, because you are either not explaining your argument very well, or you are just plain stupid. And actually, yes, you are insanely stupid because I have said more than once that I love this movie. Now get your facts straight, or shut up.

  • @prattals,you're a supracritical horse's ass who wouldn't know the difference between a marvelous film from a hole in your ass.Any film doesn't have to win the TOP Oscars to be considered masterpieces. An example of it is "E.T," one of the best films I ever saw. You've got no right insulting "Becket,", Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton. The reason you have no respect for the film's greatness is because you're English history ignorant. I'm a genius in that field.Go watch cartoons;it's your speed.

  • @39rc6cf hahahaha! I actually thought you were a serious reviewer for a while, but now I see that you are just some lonely person who loves to troll. I do actually know quite a bit about English history, and if you do too, then that's great. But I love this film; I love all of the acting, I love the direction. Peter O'Toole is one of my favorite actors (he was great in the adaptation of Lord Jim). Please stop arguing with me, because I'm going to stop and if you continue then you will look sad.

  • Oh, and you kind of misspelled some words, and your grammar was off a few times, so that kind of discredits you as a reliable source for a competent reviewer, but it's alright; It's not like you actually have the intelligence to become a professional reviewer.HAHAHA, you make me laugh so hard. Okay, I'm done. No more arguing. Have a nice life, 'cause I won't be communicating with you again.

  • @39rc6cf This film is a piece of shit.

  • @JuanMacready You obviously haven't seen the movie, or you are a complete idiot. This is a classic film defining the tale of St. Thomas Becket.

  • @kitethehacker It's an overlong and boring, made up, studio-bound film, with stilted dialogue. And the real Becket was a Norman.

So glad the talentless overacting ham Richard Burtoin died at only 58 - I wish he had died of LUNG CANCER.

  • cool!

  • One of two films in which O'Toole played Henry II of the Plantagenet dynasty.

  • Oh, fantastic movie, this :)

We watched it in English and read the play, great story!

  • can we see the entire movie ?

  • I had a boyfriend once that was obsessed with his biz partner - Johnnie Bristol. JB was a cavilier, ladys' man, & a Maverick. But I heard his name mentioned hourly...minutely!

Finally one Saturday morn his name was mentioned one time too many (SLAMMING my fist on the table), "Bristol!, BRISTOL! always Bristol... I am your woman to be your wife Aire of all that you are, womb to your forebarers!.....Yet you pollute the air withthat name...'Bristol'"

  • well, what happened?

  • WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT? TELL US.

  • I know that voice !

He is Canadian/British actor Robert Beatty.

  • interesting Peter O Toole was to reprise Henry II yet again in 'The Lion In Winter' only 4 years later..

  • Amazing film, awesome acting, gorgeous guys!!!!

  • very good
