i really disagree with that rhythm guitarist matt bouchard. alternate picking is the way to, seriously. if you're good enough at it you wont hear the noise from the strings that he mentioned. he menioned, alternte picking i the way o go, and i bet you any money tht the reason people dont do ti more often is because they can do i accurately.

alternate picking is the best technique for melody playing in my opinion. in this case i'm with you, since it gives you the most rhythmic control over your playing and youre basically able to play every melody ever, compared to maybe sweep picking where youre fenced into chord tones, since you wont really get scales down with sweeping.

BUT if youre playing chuggy metal-rhythm he's right, to get that natural metal sound you'll need to do solid downpicking, the last 30 years proved that, seriously
