It's way too expensive to built a subway system in L.A now. They had a chance to built a subway to the east L.A in 20 years ago but it's all about politics, it did not happen. The red line subway could reach to the east because it runs along the L.A river to the 4th street but they picked the gold line from Pasadena to reach to the east.

The Eastside Gold line is too slow. It's as fast as the 30 bus. However, when the regional (blue, gold, expo) connector is put into place. This line along with the expo line will probably run at capacity.
