i would believe it. i bought a 89 sr5 4runner that sat for over 6 years for sale.fired right up without hesitation and didnt skip a beat.. with some jumper cables and a gas line leaking fuel like crazy as well as every fluid with it. i also had a 88 xtra cab that ran like a champ with a blown head gasket and a cracked head. started and ran every time. drove it like that for a good month. you cant beat an old yota. i wouldnt own any truck, but an old toyota.
I have an 82 Toyota pickup that I bought six years ago for eight hundred bucks. Other that the carb not holding the idle it keeps me going all across Texas, literally!
So if anyone one knows where I can get a carb a bit cheap let me know. Thanks.
My brother start an old toyota 78 pick up it had 6 years sitting, and started very good at the first time, located in Mexico it was awesome, hard to believe says the mechanics but it is true, the machine it si a 20 R ,i read here a comment that those motors are like a energizer rabbit, i think the same abou it those are the best engines, sorry my english not good.
THE BEST ENGINE MADE period, those motors are like the energizer rabbit, they keep going and going , I love my 86 Yota 4wd, I took that small Asian Carb off and put a Weber 32/36 Carb on an Offenhauser Intake manifold and a D.U.I. custom made distributor, on a fresh built 22R also, I've put 7,000 miles on it since April and expect to drive it daily for at least 7 more years. These engines only had ONE down side,...the timing chain rubbing against the plastic chain guide, great other than that
Hey, how did you get the weber to work with the engine? I tried a weber (on an 84 or 86 22R cant remember) put the adapter and everything on. When i fired it up it was running like a raped ape, tried adjusting it.. nothing. Ended up using the stock carb.
@undergroundbasement At least it uses a timing CHAIN unlike other forigen made cars. Timing chains are tough but timing belts are not. What dumbfuck thought using a belt on an interference engine was a good idea? Jeesh it always ends in the pistons making love to the valvetrain.
hey what the difference between a 88 toyota pickup engine, and a 86 toyota pickup engine they're both 22r's an do the compressor mounts at the bottom of the engine or to, bc i have 2 diffrent conpresser brackets, they both fit, one at the top an one at the botton, do i require the air pump ot get the ac running again,,or just mount the compresser with out the air pump? I defanitly needs help
Had a 22RE that sat 2.5 years, changed oil , plugs and dumped the old gas out of the tank and the thing fired right up and ran like the day it was parked.
Dude its funny because I bought a 87 Toyota from my uncle and it sat in a field for like a year and a half I think. I went out with my boss with nothing but a spare tire to put on it and some gas and a air tank to fill the tires up. And dude she fired right up yeah man those 22R's are beast you can't kill them even if you tried.
The 22R is a great engine. I drive a 1985 Toyota pickup every day. It's easy to fix and runs good, except for the carburetor that is shot. I $pent $200 on that carb and it's crap. I want to put my old one back on!
those old toyotas are unbeatable not like the shitt they have now plastic inner bed and struts on the front suspension the new toyotas are basically minivans compared to the old ones the only new truck id buy is a nissan frontier atleast up to 2004 there still old school rugged i don't know bout the very new ones though.
Much tamer. If anything, instead of scaring me, the buzzer in that Vista actually used to make me laugh because it it sounded like it was always jumping all over the place like the one in the Toyota & it always reminded me of Richard Simmons on crack. The "buzzers" in foreign cars in the '70s & '80s were always more annoying rather than scary because they were usually annoying "beep"s rather than the scary "BUZZ!" sound that was usually in American cars back then.
I'm sorry. I didn't read the whole question. As I said before, the buzzers in the Buick & Olds were absolutely terrifying because they had that harsh "BUZZZZZZZ!" noise while this Toyota & other Japanese car like my beloved '85 Vista had a much tamer but still slightly annoying "BEEEEP" sound.
No, actually, I could listen to the buzzer in this truck all day because it is really more of an annoying beep rather than the harsh "BUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!" that was in the Impalas that I used to ride in. My old Dodge Colt Vista used to have a buzzer that sounded almost like this & it never scared me at all. if anything, it used to make me laugh at time because it would be jumping around between different octaves.
someone must have filmed this using a potato.

always buy authentic toyota parts, if they lasted the first 300,000 miles they'll last the next.

What's that obnoxious whine-like sound in the background for?
Jac2Mac 3 years ago
That would be the key buzzer. Guess you never owned a toyota.
jedblanks 3 years ago 24
@jedblanks I fuckin hate that sound, i disconected the buzzer in the doors so it dont make it when the doors are open
wheeler8801 1 year ago
That is almost exactly what the buzzer in my dear departed 1985 Dodge Colt Vista sounded like, Jac2Mac.

Is it scarier than the one in the 1979 Buick Electra and 1979 Oldsmobile 98 or is it tamer?
