  • How about flourecent quantum dots? :) And as a chemical engineer i find alot of your experiments facinating. Thank you for sharing the wonder of chemistry.

  • isso demais eu amo quimica demais

  • is amazing..uh.. but then again ..

a bunch of scientific ingredients that i knew i will never gotta make it myself.. -.- ...

  • i already tried the mountain dew and it is fake!!!!

  • wat happens when we increase the amount of things we add????

  • does more TCP0 = brighter or just longer lasting?

  • Can you make UV ones?

  • How high pitched must your voice be that you have to edit it like this?

  • @SpeedinHawk Because you don't want your voice to get reconised by collegues, friends, family your boss, or even the police. If you're seeing the actualy chemicals this guy is working with it its a sole necessity to take these precautions, Im noticing that this guy pretty sure is american. and im sure he wouldn't want to get on some agencies watchlist. :)

  • EASY WAY

    rubbing alcohol + pool tablets

    you're welcome

  • A GREEN GLOW STICK...... IT LOOKS LYK A GREEN GLOW JAR

  • hate this shit my poop is more fluorescent than this!!!

  • hee??? si yo estaba viendo alexelcapo --- tu tambien no?

  • a good video! i like this, i'm spanish! I known that because it is alexelcapo's favourite video

Come to my channel, i've got videos about minecraft like alexelcapo but alexelcapo is famous, i do the videos in SPANISH

  • Alexelcapo nos trajo aqui!

  • @OotuamigoO

    AGUANTE EL MINECRAFT!

  • like si estas aki por el twitter de alexelcapo!

  • @dey10101 SEEE XDDD

  • what would happen if you made a barrel full of this

  • What is the purpose of sounding like a rapist?

  • Mountain Dew doesn't work. But Nuka Cola does. :3

  • may i asked if i added wrongly those liquid what would be happened?? something like burn or explore or a pungent smell LOL

  • Did know or hear that you sound a lot like Dr. Egon Spengler ( Harold Ramis ) The GhostBusters?

Your videos are great, I myself have learned a lot....Thanks!!

  • I can see it now: Glow stick wars ... with dangerous chemicals in jars!

  • "very few things I do are as they appear"

  • @NurdRange can the Dye be activated/brought to its glowing state when being heated in a boiler or comparable?

  • I <3 You, NurdRage :-D

  • Dear NurdRage:

Got any tips for a 12 year old who wants to become a chemist?

  • did you alter your voice? it sounds so robotic.

  • Wow that was pretty awesome. I knew the mountain dew trick was bill shit. You guys are legit.

  • awesome. one word.

  • Can you put spanish subtitles on yours videos?

I really like it, but i dont understand all you say

  • where can i get the matirials

  • Hey go on my channel and watch elephantiasis it was a school project pretty funny

  • Highlighter fluid works right?

    its flourescent

  • Just 1 question. Absorption based dye gives color by absorbing certain colors, then reflecting/passing through other colors. As far as I know, iodine solution is brown in color because it absorbs light of complementary color of brown and re-radiate it completely, but in all directions. The solution then appears brown to an observer. Is the physics of absorption based dye and that of iodine solution totally different, or your description about the dye is generalized/ simplified?

  • damm hes smart and he has all the ingredients <3

  • I was wondering if you combined the glow sticks together would you get white light? Please answer, I had to make a channel to ask you a question.

  • so he scares me

  • *TALK

  • ENOUGH YALK ALREADY O_O"

  • Anaymous

  • "there we go, nice!" was really scary

  • i've never subscribed to a channel so quickly

  • the voice scares me

  • @TheTwilighterfan1 ur true ur not the only one

  • @TheTwilighterfan1 SAME DUDE

  • THE VOICE! THE VOICE!

  • yea i did this but i could'nt arsed putting little bits at a time in it so i just mixed the hole lot together and its like a fucking nuclear reactor it lights up my hole fucking room i the dark how do i get rid of it

  • Can you use any fluorescent dye?

  • That blue glow is the first ingerident in nuka cola

  • i can totally use this for my next science project

  • woah!

  • Cool ! :D

  • HORRAAAY I UNDERSTAND THIS EVEN THOUGH IM 10 HAZAAAA ( LIES )

  • Dear NURDRAGE,

I want to know something. Can the glowstick react on wavelenght?? maiby than the light is burning longer?? can you give me advies. Greatings

  • does the dyeless mix it generate infrared light?

  • Soo, is this like electrons going from the excited state back down to ground state? I'm assuming that's the only way the light is emitted. (Devoted chem student.)

  • @Daneboe Ur awesome :D

  • why mask ur voice?

  • you can increase the glow intensity and duration by adding sugars. Pure saccharose works great.

  • Awesome video, Dude, very interesting. Where can I get these chemicals? Do they have a long shelf life? Once the light goes out, can they be reactivated? Can the formula be altered to increase the amount of light or increase the longevity of the light?

  • @TheBigmetalhammer To answer your questions

    1. Read the description

    2. Yes

    3.No

    4. Yes, just make add more of all the chemicals

  • @DrNick1231 Sorry, the first time I watched the video, I looked away during the text that said to refer to the description. I've watched this video several times, and it is utterly fascinating. My son is five, and he loved it, too. I can't wait to read the article to really understand this process. Thanks for your response.

  • hello nerds xD

  • hi! I work in a lab...can I use another dye??

  • can you make a UV or black light type glow stick?

  • We like it :)

  • wooow... science... I felt like in my Russian class O_O

  • Why do you use this specific organic solvent? It seems to me that a much more simplistic solvent could be used, perhaps one that is less expensive. Do more common organic solvents lead to further reactions and byproducts that disrupt the florescence?

  • Could you use match heads and peroxide

  • U literally just made me love science!

  • i dont know one thing he is saying....sadly im not a nerd ....bye fellows

  • @ligitimus2 i dont understand it either. i think the end results at the end are just epic thats why i watched

  • How long does the glow last ?

  • @MrGermantim did you watch the video? He stated outright that it depends on the mixture ratio and temperature of the solution, he said his lasted a few hours. :|

  • nice where can we buy these at

  • Let me just check the cupboard .... .... .... .... hmm, no, fresh out of bis (2,4,6 -trichlorophenyl)oxalate. Will ground nutmeg be ok ? .. O.o

And you just KNOW your going to get an armed response team knocking on your door the day after you order all this stuff LOL

  • i love that voice it made me litterly lol! and this is so complicated!

  • u sound like seth rogen :)))

  • these videos are so helpfull im a starter chemist so ineed lot's and lot's of practise and these videos helps me a lot

  • oooooooorrrr u can brake a highliter and put it in water :O :P

  • How long do they glow for?

  • Quick question, can anyone over the age of 18 purchase the chemicals required to do this experiment? Or would I need to be affiliated with a school's or company's laboratory?

    Thanks!

  • this guys voice...........

  • Why am I watching dis I don't even understand it!

  • why do i feel like the fucking CIA is going to break into my house and make me dissapear just for watching this....... i think it's the voice..

  • Make pink, call it ENERGON

  • Fill a tube with fluroscent dye from a highlighter and some water. There you have, glowstick!

  • @GeraldineCdn but it would only work under black light so its really fucking retarded

  • Awesome ^_^

  • @NurdRage r u a scientist or a science teacher??

Btw I Always wanted to be a Scientist (Really Really) But My Parents Want Me To Be A Singer T.T Waaa HELp! jk umm Thumbs Up If u think this vid is awesome.. :///

  • I love chemistry.

  • AWESOME

  • جميل جداً .. شكرا لك .. العلم ينير عقولنا

thank you .. it's so beautiful .. science light our minds

  • I love those glow stick :D i wish i could have the chemicals D:

  • Hello Asewome video! i have a question, what is the concentration of the rubrene?

  • So you mentioned that performing the reaction without a dye cannot produce light. The chemical reaction still takes place though, right? is the energy released as heat instead?

  • Why did people dislike this video??

    Good job, btw!!

  • Greetings, sir! Does it matter how how much we put for each ingredient? I mean to say, will it not work if we add too much/too little of one ingredient or another?

  • Sexy voice, sexy video, sexy nurd!

  • do they have diethyl phthalate at walmart?

  • Kipkay is that you?

  • How the hell did i get here from michelle phan?

  • super ausome! i like it

  • 1:10 DROPPIN DA BASS

  • Awesome video! Thanks for explaining the science behind how the glow process works. =)

  • dude your voice is awesome 0.o

  • Very good explanation!

  • @NurdRage

    10 ml Dibutyl phtalate

    5 mg dye

    150 mg TCPO

    100 mg sodium acetate

Finally 3 ml 30% water solution of hydrogen peroxyde

Dibutyl phtalate as a solvent does not work well.

We made 20 experiments slightly changing amounts. Best result was achieved with those above. After that we prepare another 20 vials with exactly the same quantities. The results were very variable, mostly, it starts glowing, but the glow is dim and not very long. What do you think?

  • If your not a chemist and your doing this at home, what is the proper way to dispose of the mixed chemicals?

  • @jarjarbinks77 You need to get yourself hazmat containers and either higher a pick-up disposal service, or find your nearest hazmat collection facility. The disposal fees can be quite high, so check it out before you start making things that can't be poured down the drain.

  • @whatthebleepady I'm being lazy I could probably just google this but what are the rules for what can be poured down the drain?

  • @jarjarbinks77 I would suggest throwing it out with your trash (that goes to a landfill) rather than pouring it down the drain. You would put regular commercial glowsticks in the trash so I figure this is the same.

  • My brain hurts...and ur voice is lowwww....and my brain hurts....and where the fuck would I get that stuff... And my brain hurts... o.O

  • red-orange-yellow fuk logic

  • what do you think would happen if you took one of those (glass) containers of activated glow bottles and broke it? would it go out? would it disperse and still produce light? would it look cool?

    Thanks :D

    P.S. ur awsome

  • . . . I understood. . . None of this. e.e I wish I did. D: This would be so much cooloer if I could understand. . . v.v

  • I like colors :D

  • is that your real voice?

  • how did i get here?

  • I kinda wanna drink it and see if my piss glows in the dark.

  • Can a different exothermic reaction be used? It also generated energy, just heat-tier quality.

  • I just sat here smiling and ate lucky charms while pretending to know what the hell he's doing. Quite.

  • blue-green glow stick, + bright orange glowstick = Portal

  • This requires a lot of pacience and time but it's cool though.

If you want to follow an easier path, just do this:

Buy a fluorescent marker with the desired color, take off its cartridge, put it on a water bottle and then shake it a little bit. Now, you just need to point some blacklight to it and you're done ;)

  • Very well communicated science!!

  • he needs to get laid!

  • but how do you make a BLACK glowstick?

    :3

  • What if you mix all of those 4 glow in the dark colors?

  • Am i the only one who thinks of Mr. Worf, when watching this..?

  • This must be the stuff that the people in the Gatorade commercials are really drinking...

  • The mountain dew glow stick you need little mountain dew, baking soda, dish soap, and a glow stick itself get the glass out of the tube stick in the mountain dew bottle with little liquid in it, then the soap and baking soda(about a spoonfull) keep shaking and it become super bright

  • This video rocks. But why in the world do they choose to hide their voice?

  • is it safe to drink?

  • @Helgicool I really doubt it.

  • Why do you mask your voice?

  • @go2URroom that's what I'm say'n :)

  • what would happen if you mixed them all together?

  • I swear i hear Joe of Family Guy!

  • I thought all the glowing substance (like that ones in the watches) were a little radioactive, am i wrong?

  • @Filaxsan The glow on watches used to be plain and simple Uranium.

Nowadays, as you can see, we have alternatives.

  • @NurdRage why do you distort your voice like that?

  • What dye is used in infrared glow sticks? Anyone?

  • nerd-boner

  • MEMEBASE

  • 1:47 nerdgasm

  • Yea cause we all have some of those chemicals lying around in our house somehwere

  • You remind me of my college chemistry lecturer!

  • See Pee Pee Oh!

  • 1.Make large amounts of green solution

    2.Label with Nuclear symbol

    3.Place in public area

    4.Carnage=Profit?

  • Hello there sir. Where can I find or purchase the chemicals so I can try this???? Please answer of you can. Thank you and keep up the good job.

  • @Tabasconate1 i buy my chemicals from Alfa Aesar and Sigma Aldrich

  • @NurdRage what chemical do you add to make the glowstick last longer?

  • With that kind of voice you sound like a scientist that's in to more sinister experiments than creating glow sticks.

  • DRINK IT

  • Uhh-MAZINGG!!!! X]]]]

  • 1:43 Click this and listen with your eyes closed

  • @Brianmightbeback.

That was really and truly uncalled for. Nurd Rage has just as much right as anyone to call something by the wrong name. You can't possibly say that you've never called something a thing-a-ma-jig or a doohickey. Same concept. Knowledge is gained through ignorant mistakes as long as they are acknowledged as such and learned from.

  • what happens if i do this in my bath?

  • 5:56 NOOOOO!!!!! WHY MUST YOU KILL THE PRETTY COLORS?!?

  • Such an awesome video...

  • @Bryanmightbeback I prefer to keep making mistakes and learning from them. If we avoid making mistakes we also avoid a key part of the learning process. I admit I know little, but i refuse to stay away from what i don't know, otherwise, I will NEVER know it.

So I encourage you to go explore science even if you make mistakes. A compassionate expert will point them out and teach you how to correct them rather than condescendingly reject your efforts, as you have done.
