Brown calculated that at the NCAA rule of a three-point line at 19-foot (5.8 m), 9-inches from the rim, Maravich would have averaged thirteen 3-point scores per game, lifting the player's career average to 57 points per game.
Maravich played before the advent of the three-point line. His long-distance shooting skill thus produced far fewer points than would have been the case in a later era. Years later, former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown charted every college game Maravich played, taking into consideration all shots he took.
stannecyo you play ball? you have to check this out - 50-inch-vertical[dot]com - It's a unique training plan that will def help you begin dunking without even going to the gym , it's optional!
im not even joking i just watched this series of videos and i went to my hoop and i was definitely doing a lot better. god this guy is a great teacher!
@dudex408 damn I need some help with 3 point shooter, distance is too much and I seem to not have enough power in my hand to make ball reach the target..I guess I'm doing something wrong ?
@VoiceLegion in three i usually aim at the square in the middle and it alway bank it in im u standing in the corner u just shoot high hopefully it when in but if u keep practicing u don't have to hope for it to went in cuz u get use to it, just do the same thing to the mid range and if u think u don't have enough power just try doing push up or lift weigh and train maybe some day u could be in the NBA.
good lookin out on puttin these videos up. pistol pete is one of my fav old school players to watch and to be able to learn from him step by step is cool
stannecyo, exact reason why I watch basketball, along with all the bloopers. If you can't dunk yet, you have to start practicing. I definitely recommend you to try the program I'm using - "50inch vertical [dot] com" - I m 5 7 and I can dunk!
THIS freakin´ changed my whole life ( in terms of basketball )...the open window IS the biggest factor of a shot....that and to have a FIX POINT (front of the rim) to focus on...before this vid, I shot ridicuosly bad shots...but that´s all past...thanks to Pete. Thanks man, RIP.

one thing about the position of the feet when shooting, a lot of nba players like kobe bryant position it a little bit facing to the right (for right handed shooters) or left (for left handed shooters) , so are they wrong?
Players back then made a living off fundamentals. Now players use more physical means than basketball foundations. This is why even a mediocre player back then can be a great coah. Jackson, Adelman, Jerry Sloan, Lenny Wilkins all these hall of famer coaches. Watch after 20 years, when the current players become coaches, we will have poorer game strategy, defense, management of players and just more 1on1s. Can you imagine Kobe, Carmelo, AI, Shaq, as coaches?
@HonoreT35 actually kobe is one of the most fundamentaly based player in the nba... just look at his jumpshot, the way he dribbles, moves, play D, and run plays... he might b da most fundamentaly sound player in the nba along with ray allen, and tim duncan. I would love to have kobe as my coach. Trust me, watch him play now, he aint that fast or strong. but still he destroys defenders
@HonoreT35 I can imagine Kobe as a good coach because he's such a student of the game. He goes to older players and learns their techniques. He also benefited from being coached by Phil Jackson and learning the triple post offense, which forces a player to increase his/her basketball IQ because of how situational the offense and how few static plays are ever called. I see this as an anti-kobe person! Just trying to be objective!
@emomagica Good comments but there is more to coaching than making plays or teaching basketball IQ. As a coach you must be able to manage your players, their emotions, their pettiness, and nurture them, and have them listen to you and trust you. A good coach must be able to reach his players. The recent meltdown of the Lakers 4-0 sweep shows that Kobe could not reach Pau to motivate him or neutralize the thugness of Artest, Odom, and Bynum who basically threw the game away.
@HonoreT35 I don't think it's fair to blame Kobe for the foolishness of his teammates. Only Artest, Odom, and Bynum should be held responsible for their immature thuggery. Coaches can only do so much. I was so happy to see the Lakers go down 0-4! I think Kobe has leaned a ton from Jackson. Jackson basically taught him how to think about the game. I would be shocked to see Kobe coaching when he's in his 50's.
@HonoreT35 Here's what people forget. He is a Coach's son and was around a lot of basketball greats during his early life (e.g., Dad was good friends with John Wooden, knew the Globetrotters, etc). The sad this is that they died 9 months apart. Basketball fundamentals were his life. He just happened to be more athletic than most. He also ate, drank and slept basketball. I have one concern when people say guys like Kobe would make great coaches since they see the game at a much different level.
@HonoreT35 I think this has got to with the cultural change of the society. After all the NBA needs to make money and so do the players and teams, as well as the coaches. How? They must then attract as many audiences as possible, and nowadays audiences like to watch 1on1s and body clashing and all that. They wouldn't care if you are using the right mechanics to shoot or not, what they want is entertainment after all.
@msnmsn20091. I always say if your momma listens to this, they will listen to this. But if your momma don't, well... Most guys will listen to their momma. I had the same situation with an Ethiopian kid when I was trying to teach him to play tennis. Talk to their momma and if your momma likes you, you are okay. If not, trouble.
tell them about the toe, Pete! This is good stuff, there is so much involved in shooting, but most kids never learn it. If your mechanics are right (ignoring fatigue) there should be no reason to miss a shot
this open window technique really improved my shooting consistency....i have always been a very good shooter, but i must admit that i was previously a "one-eyed shooter"....if you practice these techniques and make them routine, you will become a great shooter
no, dr, J and pistol pete are almost teamates in atlanta hawks in the 1972 NBA, they always play 1 on 1 during scrimmage looseer will treat dinner, hehehehe, both are at the same era, they are all the greatest,
funny thing is pistol was so good he could shoot sideways backwards off the wrong foot his passing was incredible with trickery look at some of his highlights you will see what i mean and his dribbling would make any NBA player nowadays look foolish. Im looking at you kobe and jordan.
I tried different shooting styles but pistol pete style gives me the highest percentage to shoot the ball. At first i don't agree with pistol pete till i shoot in games. i coudnt balance myslef when using other styles. this is probably the best shooting styles.
