My dad mined Inco for 30 years, worked Frood, Stobie, Creighton until he got moved to surface running the Robo. God luv all you miners risking your lives in those pits , breaking your backs day in and day out to support your families.
One week ago today 29 of my countrymen perished down the shaft at Pike River Mine, West Coast, South Island New Zealand.
They are still down there, the mines burning and we can't get them out yet...but we will.
I know every miner, from every country, past and present, stand shoulder to shoulder with our boys. Your brother ship is as true and hard as the coal you hew.
Be at peace Pike River 29..forever working the last shift.

Hard dangerous work in shitty environments brings out the best in everyone and makes you mates for life.. i know that everyone in my crew will break there backs to help, and vice versa, if things went wrong.. so hats off to all undergrounders.. FULL respect.... stay safe.... its all about getting out of the hole EOS... PEACE....
i work in a mine in southern Indiana we just had a big fall on our unit last monday it was one break from the face we were timbering the breaking points and it fell again you just cant explain it crazy
INCO, FALCO Noranda, MIM, WMC Dome. Just to name a few companies lost. Well I won't miss Noranda, but it didn't take Xtrata and Vale long to turn two great companies into disfunctional money loosers.
I work with 2 guys in this video at big pit in south Wales, I'm proud to be a grandson of a miner and humbled and honoured to work with ex-miners now, I trust them all with my life. fantastic men, fantastic!
as an x-miner i never thought i would see the day when Britain had no deep mines.. i just never seen it coming.. the only job i miss as all the rest of them have been shit, no comradeship, just people pissing up your back all the time.. miners are real people with real values,, you don't find anywhere else.
well said, i still miss the crack even now after 23 years, the friends and workmates from those days will out last any others. All my jobs since have been crap, just full of down right nasty people who'll stab you in the back given half a chance, no REAL mates, no comradeship, no FA !
@dadswizz ex miner myself ,Kent.would go down mine tomorrow, the people I thought were wankers were realy working class heroes compared to the real wankers I'v met since 89,Salt of the earth, alas were not going back
being an x miners I toally agree with your views , but say the only thing I do miss is the comradeship instead of the back stabbing selfish people outside the mines
I'm working underground in Tara zinc mine in Meath Ireland, when you spend 11 hours a day 1.2km down the men on your crew become your brothers you depend on them and they depend on you ! I just want to pay tribute to our fellow mining brothers in Northern China who never got to "tag off" this weekend! Much love and respect.
thanks for uploading a video like this i appreciate for your patience uploading a video concerning about miner. working in mining industry is fun but dangerous... thanks
Some of my friends tell me an underground job is easy...I tell them that until they see a rockfall first hand they wont appreciate how valuable their life is to them. 5 days ago we had an 11,000 volt substation explode on us, 2km underground
OMG i never realised or ever really thought about what miners do... This video as certainly shown the reality of these mens lives underground. May God bless everyone of them, they have my utmost respect... Thank you so much for posting.
"Know in our hearts Lord, lies the soul of a man, that toils at a living that few men can stand." I'm as proud to call myself a miner as any fireman, policeman or soldier anywhere. I AM A MINER!!!
Im an Aussie undergrounder and its the best work environment i have ever been in. the hardest work i have done and the most dangerous work i have ever done.most people i know would not last a 12 hour shift.
Nice vid.. to all the men who have died down there
Hear hear. A family friend went down a stope with his mucker a couple months back> R.I.P Pekka Tupperainen. Xstrata GFM. Nothing can prepare a man for the work and environment.
99 people out of 100 would not last five minuets on the ass end of a jack leg!Anyone who says we are unskilled does not know there ass from a hole in the ground! It takes years to become a good miner, You don't blast you don't last
Here here brother. I been doin it for 22 years and ive seen alot of people come and go. The ones that do the talkin' r usually the ones that do the walkin'.
I run a Rock Bolter... at Chukar mine in Carlin Nevada... and anyone who thinks an underground miner is something to mock or belittle... has no idea...
its a whole other world.... and you dont know... unless you have been there...
mate im a fixed plant mechanic ( fitter) by trade.. ive been a diamond driller, longhole driller na shot creter and ive been under ground.. my father done 37 years underground and he was considered the best driller people have seen.. i love underground,, people dont realise wot its like.. ive lost mates in fatalities and its a whole new life when u go under ground.. i respect you bro, fellow miner!! im an aussie...
I spent almost 30 years in the hardrock mines of Nevada, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Alasaka, even the UP of Michigan at the Ropes Gold mine in 87& 88. This is a great video, all underground hands are indeed a special breed.
I work at kellingley in west yorkshire worked on the surface and at riccall im just doing my underground training with 11 other new starters between 18-30 shows mining now has a future its the first time in a long time uk coal has taken on new workers ...good vid
i worked 16 brill years darn pit, i started in 1976 at nostell colliery, i now work as an health care worker but coal dust still runs through my veins, long live scargill, if every one had taken notice of him this country of ours would still be great.
i say this to every guy the is was or will be working undergroun RESPECT from yugoslavia..oh btw here the word of miner is SRECNO ...it means good luck and all miners use it before they go down below
Ever since I was 12 years old I wanted to be an underground miner. I did get my wish somehow, when I worked at two open-pit gold mines in California, and got an education about the modern mining industry there. Those mines eventually ran out of ore and shut down.Recently I tried to get hired by the two biggest gold mining companies in our nation, Newmont and Barrick, but those interviews failed for unknown reasons. I would give anything to work for those companies. Willing to relocate too.
Hi guys great vid! Im a U/G miner for 7 yeras for Xstrata Coal and its not easy work! Yeah its great money but when i leave the house in the morning and kiss my wife goodbye, she knows as well as i know i could not even be coming home. While your under there its not only work mates your with its like family, cause every one wants to walk out safe and with 10 toes and fingers... Thanks guys
Worked U/G at Con & Giant Mines in YK, NWT, Canada for years. Worked with a lot of great people. Working U/G does take a special breed. You definately look out for each other, that's all you have when you're 3000' down. Thanks for the video.
Watching that sure brought back memories. Worked U/G mainly on air-leg 1968-1981.Started in Cornwall, did nearly 3 yrs at Mt Isa, also Eastern Goldfields W.A., Tennant Ck N.T. etc.
Bloody hard work, hot, wet, dangerous. Many deaths in those days. They say it's changed a lot now. Thanks for the vid.
You'll have to jog my memory there mate. We went down the K57 and the old Man & Supply. Also did shaft sinking on the F58. They were the only shafts operating when I was there.
There is something about the mining industry that brings out the best in people. Perhaps it's because the work and the danger requires that miners look out for each other and that encourages solidarity. Thank you to all the decent and honourable people who give their lives to this industry so that the rest of us have power in our homes, in our our schools and in our workplaces.
thanks you my name is alton brewer im a coal miner and i would just like to thank everyone staying with the coal mines and not trying to do away with them
Im a surface coal miner out in Wyoming. I worry about you guys underground, but what I cant figure out is why you guys dont say " screw this Im going to wyoming". We have so many jobs. You guys now the biz the machinery come on out and work in the sun.
It's hard to exlain exept to say "Once you've done it...it's in your blood" If i couldn't be an underground miner...i'd feel wrong calling myself a miner. Godbless us all boys!!
My name is Ward Davis. I am a bench driller at the Genesis Revett mine, Troy unit in Northwest Montana. We lost a friend, a father, and one hell of a miner a year ago this August. Thank you for showing your support to all miners who are just doing what we do....
"We scrape, we pound, we shoot our round, and hope we make it, back out of the ground."
Great Tribute - I think that if the "Wall Street Wizards" spent one shift with us down there, they would have a different view of what earning money is really like and would be less reckless with the world's economy and the wealth that we pull from the earth. 3-1
My husband was nearly killed when 500kg of coal fell from the rib and crushed him against the wheel of the shuttle car he was driving. He will never return underground. Stay safe and stay union.
this video really touches me, iv just started as an Underground Plant Mechanic, and i dont know a great deal about the business but all i know is that all the miners involved underground are as much heroes to me as firefighters and police from 9/11.
I'm as proud of being a miner as i am of anything i've ever done...or will ever do!
i've been doing it since i was 18...and now i'm 40....My father was a miner...and his father before him...and if it's good enough for them....by god it's good enough for me!
It's the greatest jobin the world...i've been mining for 20 of my 40 years and givin' the choice i'd do it all over again...were a special breed...boys be proud...and watch for loose!
Great tribute one of the slides are of one of the greatest mine and miner newmont midas and im pretty sure its my old partner he is bolting with yellow armguards time on slide show is 1:17
Great vid mate,. My grandfarther was working in the coal mines all his working life, besides being a special police constable, a miner and working for Mines Recue in south wales united kingdom but all our mines are now gone excepet tor tower collirie whicth closes on Friday 25th January. I spent almost 30 years in the hardrock mines of Nevada, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Alasaka, even the UP of Michigan at the Ropes Gold mine in 87& 88. This is a great video, all underground hands are indeed a special breed.

GFM or R62?

You'll have to jog my memory there mate. We went down the K57 and the old Man & Supply. Also did shaft sinking on the F58. They were the only shafts operating when I was there.

There is something about the mining industry that brings out the best in people. Perhaps it's because the work and the danger requires that miners look out for each other and that encourages solidarity. Thank you to all the decent and honourable people who give their lives to this industry so that the rest of us have power in our homes, in our our schools and in our workplaces.

My name is Ward Davis. I am a bench driller at the Genesis Revett mine, Troy unit in Northwest Montana. We lost a friend, a father, and one hell of a miner a year ago this August. Thank you for showing your support to all miners who are just doing what we do....

Great Tribute - I think that if the "Wall Street Wizards" spent one shift with us down there, they would have a different view of what earning money is really like and would be less reckless with the world's economy and the wealth that we pull from the earth. 3-1
