Probably if you watch from 1:18-1:53, it will help you to know how to get rid of that crocodile so you can get inside the canoe. However, once the crocodile gets scared and goes under water, and if you don't push the space bar to get inside the canoe, the crocodile will poke his head back from under water. If he does, all you have to do is press "T" to put your lighted stick inside the inventory box, and stand in front of him and push the space bar to wave the stick and scare him away again.
