There are only 3 problems wit civ on the ps1.

1 - It is rather slow the further the time goes on, how big the map is, and how many a1s there are.

2- Vague instructions and symbols.

3 - Many hours of my life have been lost to this game.

this game was great, but civ 4 was a shame to the series, I can rule play assassin's creed 2 and can't play it -_-'. It was just too bugged.

Auctually , the AI are pretty tough , even on cheftian , when it comes to wars. I once played as an American , and I set it to world map , with everyone spawning where they should be. The Aztecs and the Souix appeared , and I killed them off. Guess what? One ran off to madargascar , the other went to JAPAN and built cities there. Wasnt until 2000 years later I found them.

I love Civ IV but Civ II will always have a special place for me. The options and units are (imo) more interesting than the others. Same goes for Call to Power, also quite similar to Civ but with many different, interesting game mechanics.

dude, krunn? how does it take you 60 turns to take over a city? It takes me like, 5. I think you need to change your tactics from virtually all catapults, to more legions and musketeers. They've never failed me yet. Not to mention that they have a higher defense than 1.

What's someone's highest Civilization score? Mine is 200% something or other...

some of my cities have really bad production and it takes 60 turns to make a granary etc, what can i do to fix this?

when you build a city, try to make sure that it is near some good terrain. In the dessert is obviously a bad idea, but you want to look for like buffalo, or the pigeon in the forests, whales near the ocean are good too. If your city is near a resource, the reason it may not be producing as much is because it has a better food value than productive, that just means you have to wait a couple turns for the city to grow. Every time it goes up, your city consumes another square of resources. =D

Try beatin a nation of 60 cities when its only one of 5 that are allied agaisnt you. Thats civ3 with Total Civs 24!(Any more and its to tiresome to do diplo. Askin 31 civs to each buy or sell wares pehw! no thanks! )

Civ3 on todays computer draws the largest most complex games of civ to be seen. I play few hours every 2nd day and it takes me a month or more to finish. I don't get 'micro'ed out' I only concentrate on the tasks objective for the day with the longterm goal stuck in my mind

dude, critical strategy: to avoid ALL polution, DO NOT build the sewers! Also, don't build factories! I know it's crazy, but no polution problems. Also, the cities will still be in a position to crank out vital units and wonders!

I dont know what its baced on (trade,sheilds, food, etc) I am realy annoyed because when i am so happy about a lvl 8 city i explore and find lvl 15-20 of my enemies. Build an aquaduct, so the city pop will goto 12, then a sewer system for it to pass 12...

@Zeekill3 If the enemy has huge megapolises everywhere, you can be sure it's cheating. Civ 2 has a very clanky AI. :P

Infact, I suggest downloading FreeCiv instead.

If you didn't because you lost it, then here's how to increase in size:

1 Improve land in city radius so almost everything has irrigation/farmland

2 Wait

In order for a city to level up, you need to fill up the "food storage" box by having a surplus of food for how-many turns. Building a Granary (you need Pottery) will quicken the pace.

@Zeekill3 Irrigate all grassland, plains, forest, etc to get as much food as possible. Build granaries, harbours, aqueducts, sewers, supermarkets + farmland. Send food caravans / freight to a city to make it grow extra fast. make sure you have no unhappy people, and the city grows faster. That's all the tips I can think of.

Civ4 is a great choice if you find this game no longer challenging. And Civ4 is less time intensive than this one.

On the other hand, if you haven't yet, try out civ2-test of time-expansion set, it is completely worthy and it is at least triple fun of this game.

Seek the fun of raping poorly-AIed- opponents? Too bad Civ2 is NOT battle-focused game and it sucks if you play this game the way it shouldn't be played. Go starcraft and so on games instead where AI don't fail at battle tactics.

20 turns to conquer a city? If your civ had a democracy with high trade output, it's much faster and cheaper (in the long term) to conquer cities by using spies to incite revolts.

I've traveled. To judge superiority and inferiority, one would need some sort of scale, values, things to judge. What're you judging them on? Western culture is very rapidly approaching a point of almost certain collapse. The romans likely thought a lot of their own culture, but now it's all history. There are many cultures that lasted longer and we can certainly see a culture lasting much much longer. Does that mean the Roman culture was inferior?
