I think the significance of the young ones called the old, was back in a time young men were the old hands in battle. You'd have men literally weeks in age apart who were hardened battlers. Or the young calling upon the wisdom of the elderly to add them in their hardened fights against tyranny. "Youth to fuel a war, wisdom to carry it."
