Why would you put a 3vze truck engine into an MR2? I just cant wrap my mind around such a slow motor being this fast. (I have an 88 3vze, aka 3.slow.)
@Motorfordtoyota Power to weight. Not to mention the V6 MR2 swaps are almost ALWAYS bolted up to the MR2 turbo tranny (E153), which has shorter gear ratios and provides better acceleration.
@Motorfordtoyota Oops. Didn't know it only had 150 hp. Thought it was a little more. Any idea on tq? I know the V6s have incredibly flat torque bands all the way through the powerband.
@BeastMR2 Yep, 140 hp for 88-89, then 150 hp for 90-95, then the 3.4 came along with 190hp and 220 ft lbs. The 3vze throughout its entire life span had 180 ft. lbs. The torque is mostly low end and quickly drops off. Plus 3vze's HATE high rpms. I never take mine past 5k.
@pistonbloke I actually looked again, and the engine in this swap is the 3vzfe (3.0l Camry engine). 180 hp and 190 ft lbs. (Or vise versa, I dont rember exactly right now!)
@Motorfordtoyota The best thing about 3zvfe is that it is easy to tune. With almost free mods like timing, intake manifold valve hack, etc. you can get past 200hp and with moded exhaust y-pipe it is possible to hit 230hp and with port and polishing 250hp is possible.
Btw if you're interested then there is really awesome write-up on this at mr2wiki.com! :)
@Syco318 If I do a swap its going to be either the 4.0l VVTi (or 4.3) Lexus v8, or the 4.7 iFORCE v8. no v6s for me. Definately no 4-shitters, I mean 4 bangers.
@MrTNJFILMS It says 3rd up top and you car has more hp and pulls harder, and what? My honda (unfortunately) would outpull your mr2 however I prefer my V6 mr2. It ain't all about power, and at a guess prolly 220hp or so depending on certain things like exhaust Y pipe, intake mods and timing advance.
Hey the stock NA tach works with a 3VZFE? I know the 1MZFE needs to either have a Turbo Tach, a Solara Tach, and or you have to modify the NA stock Tach to work with the 1mZFE configuration.

@BeastMR2 Yeah, but still only 150hp (The 96 2.7l Tacoma gets that hp), SOHC, ect. Heavy cast block, I just cant seem to get my mind around it.

Thats a real shame, because the high RPM sound from them is soooo great, why would that cause probs with that engine??

@Motorfordtoyota 188 hp/ 203 ft/lbs torque factory with the 5 speed tranny
stumpy166521 5 months ago
@stumpy166521 I knew it was somewhere around there. lol

@BeastMR2 But, turbo or S/C (boosted) v6s typically have broad torque bands.

It's 3vzFe not 3vze. That "F" makes huge difference. Google it! :)
Syco318 8 months ago
@Syco318 Ooops, didnt see the F. Yeah, the 3vzfe is the DOHC Camry engine with 180 hp, the 3vze is the SOHC truck engine with 150 hp.

@Syco318 Thanks. for the link. But its kinda usless to me because I have the un-tunable 3vze. lol. There a few mods, but not many.
