  • He looks an sounds more like Carl Solomon than he does Ginsberg. Im sick of James Franco.

  • What!! Wow I never new this movie exsisted! This is incredible. I must see it.

  • I always cry in this part of the poem.

  • <3 i love love love James Franco in this is voice its so ..~~~indescribable~~

  • very good ACT TING!

  • Just when I thought James Franco couldn't get any better...

  • In the original Six at Gallery Six Reading, Allen only read the first part of Howl so this scene never happened.

I hate James Franco as Allen Ginsberg. They just don't have the same vibe. Franco has this preppy wannabe coolness and Ginsberg was an awkward Jewish intellectual as earthy as could be. I also hate the film's romanticism of Howl, it makes it look contrived.

  • @kawaiichan1224 Franco is actually pretty awkward and I think he's just an artist like most good actors and he's sort of portrayed or thought of as you described him. I haven't seen the movie though. I think they're very similar in voice and feeling but not looks. I like it.

  • Great reading, very inspiring movie.

  • what a good imitation of how he talks.

  • Listening to Howl reminded me of when I once went to a party held by hippies a couple of years ago in Melbourne with Japanese friends and one Korean who picked drunken fights and had us all ejected, where I was left to apologise.

  • 'i thought hurricaine season was over'

  • this is shit

  • I'm with myself in Rockland where I'll never figure out I'm alone.

  • Allen, I'm with you in Heaven where you sit enthroned and elevated o'er those who never offended the norms!

I'm with you in Heaven where it's you who pushes away the fences until they're gone!

I'm with you in Heaven where the people feel the rain!

I'm with you in Heaven where we sneer at death!

I'm with you in Heaven, Allen, where you belong and I don't!

    I'M WITH YOU, ALLEN!

  • @NeonlightRebel this was beautiful

  • @Dizzy205 Thank you <3

  • If you think your dog writes better poems you should post a few on you tube and let us critique them....with puerile insults and the banal negativity that passes for critical analysis these days. How many souls have you shaken? Not as many as Alan.

  • The movie wasn't made to give you an interpretation. It's a poem, watergun. Interpret it for yourself, this is how art works, it should be personal. If you can't, then do yourself a favor and stay away from Ginsberg's poetry. Matter of fact, stay away from any good poetry.

  • This movie is beautiful, i tear up at this and the Moloch scene

  • @soulshaker51 really? your dog could write a better poem than Alan Ginsberg, who is a Pulitzer Prize winner and an acclaimed poet? shut the fuck up.

  • @sahanagopaal hahahha don't even waist your time on this person.. just trying to create a shock. everyone knows that influence of these beat writers on our society

  • @soulshaker51 get a life..I've seen you on several of Ginsbergs Video comment sections leaving the same nonsense.

  • Maybe, I'm just one of those old fashion Beatniks... I'm just not ready for the thought of this being a film. Just the thought of all those new age hipsters, claiming Howl for their own just because they went to see this film, worries me. Howl, has none fine all by it's self ... running on simply "what is" the greatness that is Ginsberg. Then, I think about what the guys would say... What the hell does it all matter anyway... comes to mind.... Maybe I'll go see this.

  • yea i know how you feel. this is nothing compared to what there gonna do with on the road when it comes out though. the chick from twilight is supposed to be in it.

  • @cdphatty Oh NO! Please tell me you are kidding. I heard a rumor of on the road being made in to a film, but not that she work be in it. Why are they doing this to these classic books. Most of the meaning behind these stories, is to be free... no real meaning, ya know... They are taking away, not giving to the history of these books. They are a thing you are suppose to come across, dive in to... read! ... not see them in a fucking movie! Uh ... Sorry for the rant.

  • @loadedwatergun44 you should watch the film before ranting. it's beautiful, expecially the animation.

  • @loadedwatergun44 There is no part in which they give an interpretation of the poem. Retard.

  • @cdphatty

Excuse me??? THAT'S DISGUSTING. On the Road doesn't deserve that at all.

  • this shouldn't work, franco is far too good looking to be ginsberg, yet magically he nails it!!!

  • Just saw a pre-screening - great movie about a great poem and poet. James Franco would make Ginsberg proud (and no doubt happy being played by someone as hot as him:)

  • whoaaaa, this gave me goosebumps.

  • where can I watch this movie?

  • When I heard that Franco was playing Ginsberg, I thought it was a terrible idea, but after watching this and another clip, I'm pretty sure that no-one can do a better job at Ginsburg than Franco. I've been listening to alot of Ginsberg recordings lately and I think this is spot on. I have this strange feeling that he's going to get an Oscar Nomination out of this

  • @thehandlesoflove I felt the same way. I listen to a recording of Ginsberg reading "Howl" and he sounds almost just like him. And when you dress him in a beasrd and glasses, I think Franco was the best possible choice.

  • I dont know but this video is funny, he seems to be trying to be hard. although I want to see the movie but I dont see franco really in the role seeing this video but I hope the movie has more bright moments

  • he does kinda sound like ginsberg, but its not perfect. but really, i don't think anyone can perfectly mimic ginsberg.

  • no one can sound like Ginsberg but Allen Ginsberg. He was an angel among men. I think you should just take the messsage and hommage of the movie in stride instead of judging it

  • He sounds more like Sean Penn in milk as Harvey milk. He dosent really sound like Ginsberg at all

  • I actually was just listening to actual Ginsberg readings and I think he's pretty damn close-- especially the cadence!

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO THE ACTRESS IN THIS CLIP IS ( THE ONE JAMES FRANCO IS READING TO )

I have not seen her before, but I would love to know what else she is in ...

  • Voice sounds more like Jack Kerouac, this is a huge order for Franco and as much as I would love for it work, I don't see it.

  • I want to watch this movie sooooo bad- dunno where though D:

  • I've checked to see when this movie is going to be released but it is still to be announced. . can't wait to see it

  • Hmmm . . . he did that well. Got the voice right.
