  • ftmjake is your scooter still running good? I'm asking because I 'm thinking of getting a Chinese

Scooter (Roketa 150cc) and I am worried about maintenance. I realize that I will need to take it to a dealer at the end of every summer and have it checked and winterized but have their been any BS problems that should have never been a problem in the first place. Like something falling apart that should never fall apart. THANKS.

  • @SPZMotorSports my video is NOT a place for you to advertise, unless of course you plan on compensating me for that. Because legally you have to... so I suggest you start paying royalties or remove your advertisement.

  • OMG Dude I Have The Same Scooter, Check it Out On My Channel, I Have A Sound System On IT.. :D

  • These scoot are shit... If you want to put money into it. ok. I spent plenty of money just to make this scooter run well. Its a piece of shit... I still ride it, It is worth putting a few hundred in a nice ride...

  • hello i have the same scooter and it seemed like it just ran out of battery. I cannot turn on any of the lights or anything, can u tell me where the battery is located? It would help me out a lot, thanks.

  • @fabalaosone its under the foot mat. THey are cheap batteries for sure. Ull need to go buy a charger, Or better yet a better battery, I could NEVER get mine to stay charged if left for more then a day without turning on the scooter. Good Luck!

  • @ftmjake thanks dude, i pretty sure ur right because my i was wondering why my foot mat was kinda taken off lol.

  • @ftmjake Go to harbor freight get a solar panel about the size of a loaf of bread it will trickle charge your battery and it should be ready for action when you need. That is if some dick doesn't steal your solar panel. Where I live I carry a gun on my person 24/7 they think I am nuts and IDC what they think as long as they don't steal my stuff.

  • you have to watch out for the bump on the road you can ruin your tire like that

  • does the bakc left tail light work and if its not sold yet how much u selling it for and how good is this on gas

  • @gods1997 the blinkers worked. the tail light its self was burned out. But it has been sold. Sorry

  • @ftmjake its ok just how much did u sell it for and can u help me find a place to get one of these for the cheapest price thanks

  • @ftmjake oh its ok i just wanted to know and how much were you selling it for and can u help me find a cheap place to get one of these plz and thank you for all the help

  • does the back left tail light work and if this isnt sold yet how much u selling it for

  • Awesome

  • do some research.. sunl are made in taiwan, not china, big difference and much better assembled, (usually same motor design though, gy6, so you could swap out bad parts on a china pos)

  • I got 72mph out of my SUNL 150 yesterday. I have had it 2 years and have only had to do routine maintenance.

    Never had a single problem.

  • oh and how do you change the oil and what do you use?

  • what if im just using this as a scooter to ride around a neighborhood or to mess around and ride just for fun.(Not going top speed) Do you think I will still have alot of problems?

  • you should be fine. I havent had any problems with mine expceot I got a flat tire and its sat for a long time, so now I need a battery. i tried charging it, but it wont keep the charge. Its a cheap battery anyway.

I replaced the fuel filter and petcock right out of the crate, but that was an easy fix.

  • Make sure you are ready for a carb cleaning(just use carb cleaner),not hard-better if dealer is nearby, but if not,do it yourself(get dealer to authorize it over the phone first)the price is 1/4 of a Honda 150 scooter.Your choice.I have a Sunl 150 Racer November 2008 yellow.

  • y do u say be ready for a carb cleaner?

i have a 2008 sunl an i think i am having probs with my carb. it lacks power!!! it use to hit 60 now im lucky if i hit 25...

  • @Omnifari0us I know what the problem is, it's a very easy fix. Check your messages, I sent you a message on how to fix it. It just a torn or punctured carb vacuum chamber diaphragm.

Takes 5 minutes to fix. I have a spare diaphragm if you need it. See your messages

  • Best to call the nearest china scooter dealer and ask them. Most are helpful over the phone. They will charge a fee to work on it at a last resort.Good Luck.

  • @Omnifari0us, Your diaphragm was delivered to your house this morning.

Let me know how it goes. You have the whole thing, with needle, slide Sping and everything. All you need to do is slide it in. make sure the needle goes gently into the jet, do not force it. Make sure the line the edge of the diaphragm is lined up properly, see the little bump on the edge. You scooter will do 60+ again.

  • dont buy a chinese scooter i have bought 2 of them and have had nothing but problems i just sold both of mine today for 450 and i have 2300 invested both didnt run and couldnt figure out whats wrong with em and i only put 600 miles on the one and 3000 on the other.....do urself a favor and buy a honda

  • I have a SUNL 150cc scooter it is 14 months old. I look after it and it looks after me. It does a touch under 70mph (per GPS) I have never had a problem with it and it still looks brand new with 1800 miles on it. I posted my video as a response. You can be unlucky with Chinese scooters and other will run forever.

Mine goes fast for what it is and is very reliable. Has never let me down.

  • hey i have the same one, it is a 2008 and it only has 134miles on it, and alrdy has problems, it is lacking power big time! it starts to lagg at 4,000 rpm's... do u kno what it could be?

  • @justinfox42618 why not have a mechanic work on them if you couldn't fix em yourself?

  • @justinfox42618 people with Honda 50cc scooters, Yamaha 50cc scooters are switching their engines for Chinese GY6 150cc engines so they have more speed.

  • I have an Eagle XY150T (5) 150cc GY6. I have had no trouble with it. Anythng that is wrong...I caused it. Example: Brake fluid and plastic do NOT mix well. I can go 0-60 without any problems. ***People need to keep in mind these are scooters not motorcycles. You cannot treat it like a Harley.

  • It's deja vu all over again. I got one. It is NOT crap.. No it ain;t no Vespa. No it ain.t no Harley....Chop Suey amerika.....A decent ride for poor boys...ride on dudes..

  • I fell off my scooter today! Ouch I am aching so bad! I just dont know how I will be showering tomorrow!!

  • Anyway, open the back of your TV, Cell Phone, Computer any manfuactured product you care to mention and you will find 99% (if not 100) is made in China.

  • They won't touch them because they are doing the same thing that American and Eurpean dealers fif to the Japs when they first imported their bikes into those markets.

  • Chinese scooters are fine. It's their owners that are often the problem. No idea about service etc. The only problem that SUNL scooters have is that they are jetted to lean, which can cause them to overheat. Junk the original jet and put in a 120 main jet and that solves the problem. it also adds 5mph to the top speed and improves the acceleration. You can get this scooter in the video for $899 on the internet.

  • Chinese scooters are rubbish

  • your selling it because its crap arent you, be honest?!

  • nope, Still runs just fine. Just not going to put my life at that much risk. It was the most horrible thing I have ever witnessed.

  • Did he get creamed while riding a scooter?

  • I don't know the ultimate results of the accident, I just know I heard a THUD and then a guy flying across the car and then the THUD of him hitting the ground. there was nothing left of his 49cc and there was blood ALL over the road (wasn't wearing helmet) he was literally one driveway away from being home. he lived in an apartment complex next to the house i was renting

  • You haven't got a clue have you. This is the same shit people aid about Japanese bikes in the 60ies and 70ies.

  • I have more of a clue than you my friend. Japanese products were at least well made and made out of decent quality materials. These chinese things are made in the most appalling way using VERY poor quality materials, hence the reson why they only last a year or two at the most... WORLD OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES PRODUCTS!!!

  • When Japanese bikes were 1st imported peiople said things like they don't last a year and exactly the same things were said about Japanese bikes as are now said about Chinsese bikes. The world of difference between Japanese and Chinse products now is that the engine designs being used by the chinese are about 20 years out of date. They are old Jap designs. I work on bikes and scooters every day, and most of the probs are caused by the owners, whether the bikes are Jap, Italian or Chinese.

  • Maintenance is nothing really to do with it, when a speedo's cheap plastic internals wear out after 2000kms, or a wheel bearing fails after 3000km, plastic fairings crack and drop to pieces with the vibrations of the engine, is that down the maintenance? You never did get any reliabilty issues with jap bikes, yes they may have been cheap and copied from our designs but they were and still are built with care and with quality materials, something chinese products most certainly are not!

  • I owned a SunL / Roketa Bahama Scooter for two years. It worked fine, FOR TWO YEARS. As long as you take care of it, and keep your parts together. I had NO TROUBLE with it until last week. That's two years folks.

Right now im having electrical problems, perhaps carb problems.. if anyone can help plz PM me.

  • if you google sunl you'll find they've f#ucked alot of people.....beware

  • THEY (sunL) haven't fu&*ed anyone... listen. it is a cheap made chinese scooter. This scooter comes in MANY names sunL, Rocketa, Sunvace, but its the same scooter. So don't blame sunL, blame the manufacturer of the scooter, Sunl and others pay this facotry to put their name on the product.

you get what you pay for, if you want a scooter that will last you YEARS N YEARS don;t buy a chinese scooter. If you NEED a cheap way to get around for a while.. its a great buy! most people know this!

  • All I was trying to do is inform potential buyers of the company's reputation. Your right, "you get what you pay for." So let people know what there paying for. Your scooter might be working great, but the !!!FACT!!! is your case is an outlier. Alot of people have lost their hard earned money. And those companies are to blame! They knowingly sell these sub-standard products because they know it will entice those who can't afford the name brand. Read the reviews before you buy!--

  • mine is infact NOT running great. If you had even taken 10 mins to read the entire thread, you would know this. pay attention.

  • Ok people let's clear the air on the chinese scooter thing. Fact #1 some of the parts are inferior but can be replaced. Fact#2 all of the body materials are cheap but work!! Fact#3 almost all of these scooters run on a GY6 engine which was developed by Honda. Bottom line you buy this scooter maybe spend another 400 bucks to replace some things that MAY go wrong. you have a solid scooter for still half the price and will run a long time.

  • Agreed, My local scooter shop sells similar chinese scooter, yet their cheapest 150 is 1900.00 (for a chinese scooter!!!!!!!) what a mark up! So even if I spend 800.00 to fix things here n there over time. it is still a better option then purchasing locally, And besides, even the best scooter money can buy, is still going to need things replaced sooner or later. So just becaues you spend 2300 or whatever on a 'name brand' scooter, doesn't really mean you'll never have to repair it.

  • I think that guy is talking about 4500 dollare vespas

which I think is a waste of money for the same money you can get a pretty nice used motorcycle.

these chinese scooter are great if you're mechanically inclined AND as far as I can tell, only the grey poupon types buy vespa's, the majority of those owners would cry like a baby if it broke down on the road...AAA don't come out on scooter calls lol

  • Hello, i was interested in buying a scooter like this one (or similar 150 cc) but i wanted to register it here in NJ. Doest it classify as a motorcycle or as a moped?

  • I do not live in your state, and I do not know all the state laws of course. You should do that research on your own. But more then likely as in most states, anything over 49cc would mean you would need a motorcycle endorsement, motorcycle insurance and you would have to tag your scooter. MOST states are similar, but again check with your state specifically. Some states require you to tag a 49cc. Im Michigan you purchase a 3 year tag. Missouri, no tag needed. So it varies widely. good luck!

  • I am a scooter mechanic. What I find is that eole have fu@#ed themselves. They know nothing about scooters and maintenance of scooters and shouldn't be on two wheels. They'd get fucked on any 2 wheeler, they have no business being on them.

  • I am an experienced car and bike mechanic and know that its nothing whatsoever to do with servicing or maintenance, even with the best care in the world these things will self destruct after only a short time (i should know ive had 3 chinese scooters and bikes before)

  • Some Chinese scooters are well built and some are badly built. You can not tar them all with the same brush. I have 10,000 miles on mine and the only problem I have had is a perished diaphragm in the carb.

  • I bought the same scooter 1 month ago...

the entire bike shutdown while on the road.

Took it to local bike shop and they said ignition problem which was electrical. We purchased CDI on SUnL website and he tried to replace. Still can't get the bike to startup.

I don't know what to say. Good bike when it ran but now the thing is out of commission.

    Can anyone help?

  • well if your local shop can't help you.... then what makes you think anyone here will be able to? perhaps.... its NOT an ignition problem that is electrical... it has kick start, did you try that? if it that isn't working... then it might not be electrical at all. Perhaps you should take it to another shop?!

  • Got one boyfriend teaching me how to ride it. Same kind, different color

  • it's real easy once U get the hang of it. What color did you get? having any issues yet?

    Make a video!

  • hey man, you're really worrying me with all these complaints. I just bought an SL 150-26 and it should come by the end of this week. I live in LA so I pray it doesn't shut down on the road or something.

  • yep you get what you pay for... I havent compklained about it shutting down. I havent had that issue. Just make sure when you get it, adjust your idle. and keep it high for the first 100 miles or so, then work it down slowly. after the first 300 miles when y ou do the gear and oil change... change the spark plug too.

  • Ok guys. I just got this scooter today. got it set up and have just run it around the neighborhood and so far no problems. I had the trouble with the idle set to low so it would stall once I got it up so just adjusted the idle a little and no problems. Everything seems pretty ok. You can tell where some areas are cheap but that shouldnt really affect the bike. I'm sure some of the parts in the engine are very cheap but once replaced should improve the bike tremendously. keep you posted

  • yes I have posted about adjusting the idle a couple of times.

Depending on where you got it, you should have a 1yr ENGINE warranty. (no labor) so far nothing in my engine has gone bad, just outside of it. (naturally)

when taking pieces apart, please note that the little plastics tabs, will break off almost every time.

your rear break should need adjusting about 75 miles in.

and dont forget your gear and oil change at 300 miles (replace spark plug too)

MAKE A VIDEO so we can see it.

  • I will post a video. Just a couple observations. I ordered the SUNL however when it arrived it looks identical but is a jmstar bike with the model name sunvace. Thought that was interesting. Probably same manufacturer just different name however it does say JMStar motors from Shanghai China.

  • Yep, The one that I got that arrived doesnt even say sunL. and on the web page where I bought mine, they are now offering the SAME scooter under the rocketa name. So its just one manufactuere making the same bike to sell under many different names.

the same things happens with MANY things we buy.

  • I have a burgandy one,I have got better rideing it and I don't have no problem with it and pray I don't.

  • we are ordering one tomorrow cant wait till i get it

  • i hope you enjoy! just remember u get what you pay for so don't get mad when your arrives and you have problems and there are costly repair bills. Once they get worked out tho. It is great fun to ride! Take a video when it arrives!

  • its really not anymore dangerous then riding a bike.

accendents happen, but not too often. I would encourage you to take a riders safety class, that might help your parents feel better. Have them take it with you!

  • you get what you pay for, so far they havent had any effect on putting the body back on. but... so far I am pleased with the money I paid for it.

  • aw dude!!! I hate u for makin this vid. My parents won't let me buy this cuz they think it's to dangerous. I can't put up any argument cuz it is dangerous. Damn i really want one. Peace out, pogopro

  • just grow a little more and then you can make your own decisions. But this guy only made you potentially more safe. I give him props for that.

  • i just got mine up to 50. you gotta break it in first.

im at 65 miles and it hit 50 mph around 55 miles.

and im a BIG guy. so if your of avg build. you might be able to get to 50mph faster. I expect to get mine near 55 mph, even tho the roads I go on are only 45.

But yeah you should have no problems just give it time

  • nice thanks for the info, I will be buying one in the next few days, Iv heard alot about them having mechanical problems and the warranties dont cover labor but Im pretty mechanically inclined so Im not to worried about it.

  • yeah I havent had any troubles with the engine itself. I suggest def doing the first motor oil and gear oil change at 300 miles to get out all the metal shavings. and I suggest also replacing the spark plug to something better at that time or before. Anything that happens from the seat back is a real bitch because the plastic is VERY hard to get off. and the clips are cheap and break off. This is my problem I knew i had a gas leak knew how to fix it, just couldnt get to it.

  • sounds like my cousins kia, every time you try to fix one thing you break five things LOL

  • hey Im thinking about buying one of these but I need it to be able to maintain 50mph on mostly level ground, can it do that?

  • read ALL THE POSTINGS TO FIND OUT ABOUT WHAT I HAVE HAD FIXED. Ive only driven it about 50 miles so far.

Im paying 130 but usually its cheaper, I just havent carried insurance in a long time.

  • I've noticed most of these websites say they have a 1 year warranty on these scooters. Any of these repairs covered by the warranty?

  • double check the words... I have a 1 year ENGINE PARTS warranty and i also had a 30 day general parts warranty.

    Parts warranties NEVER include labor.

you get the part for free, but you still have to pay someone to do the work! infact if u read closer, most will say they do not include labor and will not reimburse for labor.

  • sounds good. i'll keep you posted on how mine arrives and if i have any problems. I hope to get it soon however have a planned vacation which could delay me actually getting to use it.

  • to rid eit on road do u have to have insurance?and a licence?plz get back to me im looking into getting one

  • in most (if not all) states the answer is YES to all. its 150cc

  • how much are u payen for insurance?and is the motors good on it what have u had to fix on it so far

  • I ordered this scooter as well. havent received it yet. How do you feel about the quality of the scooter. What kind of repairs have you had to make with just 50 miles

  • mine took almost 3 weeks to arrive to me. I ordered blue, with yellow as backup my order sat, because they had neither color at the time, so finally i called and said if color is a problem ill take whatever u have, finally they sent a red one. I had a defective fule valve assembly right out of the crate, ($100.00 local shop to repair) I curently have a tail/brake light out but was quoted 200.00 for repair (lots of labor to remove rear body plastics!!!!) but over all, i really enjoy it.

  • is it a strong scooter. like can it go up hills easily?

  • So far, I mean I havn't gone up a big big hill but i have driven on more then flat land. Its not broke in yet, but have it up to 50 (only has about 50 miles on it)

    So its getting there.

Ihave had to make a few repairs, but the price of buying on the internet still will save me tons of cash compaired to buying a simliar model (cheapest 150cc model) locally I have saved with repair even about 1000.00.

  • Oh, ok. Great thanks! =]

  • sunL 150cc scooter SL150-26. just like it states.

Sorry I deleted your posting. I always hit remove instead of reply!

  • damn that's too bad, did you get it from Ebay? That's where I've been looking.

  • No i bought it direct from company on the web.

Its a good bike. its just a gas leak. The company i bought it from didnt cause it to happen. They are shiped crated right from china to their warehouse then to the customer. im still going to save money after fixing the scooter then i would have if I bought locally, so Im nto sure if buying locally IS a better deal. they get the bikes the same way, crated from china. so it can happen to any bike! all in all i like the scooter.

  • What did you pay for it if I might ask? I was looking at a company in the Dallas area called ATV discounters and they want around $900 something for a good one.

  • i was thinkin of getting one of these

  • Woot, I just bought a yamaha riva 180 today! Grats, see you on the road :D

  • well smart cool ride. so do you not need number plates there?

  • yes also have a motorcycle license, none of which i have done yet! LOL

  • Now I have! LOL
