  • How do you join up? Would you take a non Jew?

  • So if there was ever a war between Israel and the USA - I wonder which side they would fight on?

  • @revol148

That would be an individual decision, but in any event it's purely rhetorical because the west (not just the USA) will remain an ally of Israel until hell freezes over :)

  • @Lagolop Thanks! - That's the reply I always get when discussing Israel and the USA.

  • @revol148

Yes, we and Israel will always be allies, thank God. Israel is the only democratic entity in that shit hole region of the world. They take the first hit for us and are on the front lines. Volunteering in Israel is a great idea. I have heard many good stories about it. I'm looking into it myself.

  • @Lagolop well I suppose if you want to support Israel you probably would be better off doing the Sarl-El thing rather than a Kibbutz or Moshav as they are mostly privatised and anyway farming is hardly the backbone for Israels security or indeed economy. It seems from this video to be alright although I'm guessing you are charged a small fortune for doing it.

  • @revol148

It began when Israel was at war at harvest time. All the soldiers were away and the harvest would have been lost. Now it is base duties which frees up soldiers for more important stuff.

They do not charge a dime for this; in fact they put you up, house you and feed you and provide your clothing. They also provide field trips and there are other perks. I'm just beginning to gather info now. Of course you have to provide your own flight and any off duty stuff is your responsibility.

  • @Lagolop Is that right? - I thought in one of these related videos they say you have to pay to go on them - I did think that was slightly odd(!)(?) I reckon providing you have Christian or Jewish credentials and after a fair degree of security screening you could probably at a push actually join the army.Stuck in an army for three yeras - my idea of hell.

  • @revol148

    No fees.

You have to apply first, make sure you are physically able etc. Then there is an interview. Volunteers are, from what I have seen, Jews and Christians but I do not think there is any restriction on your religion. Some are atheists for Pete sake.

As for joining the army as a soldier; that is not the point of Sar El. You are a volunteer only, and not for any fighting. Sar El is not an army recruitment organization.

  • @Lagolop I appreciate it is a logistic support organisation rather than front line fighting! I was just saying that if you wanted to go all the way then I think it is possible to join the IDF.I nearly got a job out there a fews years back doing research into alternative technology - the pay was terrible (and no-where near Tel-Aviv)!

  • @revol148

That's interesting. I'm a database engineer and thought I could help in some aspect like that but I don't think that is what the Sar El program is about. I will of course offer but I'll probably get assigned to cleaning rifles ;) Wherever they need me.

From what I hear, Tel Aviv is a little on the "fast" side for me. I have to decide what to see when I am there. I'll prob go for 3 weeks and then tour for 2 weeks after with my wife (if she can join me)

  • @revol148 Go to vfi-usa.org and look over the program and schedule. Last year over 1,600 Americans volunteered, including a percentage of non-Jewish people.

Overall, it's a blast. And Tel Aviv is "wild" only compared to Jerusalem which is in a universe of its own.

  • @profusions Hi thanks for the information.I don't think the I.D.F and I are going to share a roof anytime soon - although I will bear the Sarl-el organisation in mind! I agree Jerusalem is amazing (and that's from someone who is not even religious!)However given the choice I'd still reckon on living in Tel-Aviv!

  • @Lagolop Just to note, there is a small registration charge of about $100 or so.

They do feed you, clothe you and house you for free during the work week for as long as you volunteer.

However, the whole experience is tax deducible for U.S. citizens, including airfare, living expenses on weekends, etc.

  • @profusions

Ah so you have been! Maybe send me a message privately and we can discuss. I am Canadian and there are people here where I live that have been; they loved the experience. $100 to register is a pittance (I wasn't aware of it), it must go to help maintain the office administration. I'd gladly pay it.

I wasn't aware that this is tax deductible!! I would think it is for Canadians too.

  • @profusions

I also heard that when you are with them and if you are traveling around on days off, there are perks for lodging etc for Sar El volunteers, throughout Israel.

  • Israel and the IDF have earned the respect of the (sane) World -if I was young/healthy enough...I would fight with them...I was raised/born into a Muslim family -and know first-hand the insanity and horror of Islam...and what they intend for the World...Israel, fighting these insane murderers first-hand...have ALL my respect!

    Yay Israel!!!

Thank You for the vid!!! Shalom!

  • @farsajjj

Thanks for your thoughts. You certainly have a unique position to judge the reality of events.

  • @profusions -thanx-but the REAL thnx goes to Israel/ IDF- t/only ones who REALLY know the mindset/nature of t/ fight. I've lived in "Islamic enclaves' (poor,3rd World ones).and what are they concerned about t/most?-SEX. They look at how free/proud/beautiful your women are, look at their own. can you spell JEALOUS? Want to end the struggle? Send a boatload of Vegas hookers, tell the men to leave t/guns behind, live on boats-discuss-evaluate their beliefs, and NO MORE HEZB>Hamas! Islam=anti-life!

  • @farsajjj

Wow, not many comments like yours!!

  • You American just can't get enough of Israel can you - first you taxpayers subsidize the country to the tune of $US3.2,000,000,000 a year - then you volunteer to work for the army!

  • If I want to join Mahal could I be non Jewish/Israeli ??

  • Yes SAR EL is open to all...

  • Great Shoshana, Check out vfi-usa dot org for details. I hear the volunteers have plenty of work to do.

  • Thanks. I will do that.

  • what is the difference between sar-el and vfi?

is vfi only avaible for us citizens?

is there a difference in age for the one who comes to vfi respectively sar-el?

i will go there, but i dont know what organization to choose..

  • Hi cubismo85,

VFI helps U.S. volunteers prepare for their service in conjunction with Sar-El in Israel. There is no age difference. If you call VFI at 1-866-514-1948 they can help you further and answer all your questions. Good luck and thanks for your interest.

  • KOL HAKAVOD!

  • My Sar-el volunteer experience was the best ever. I didn't play Tourist. I was actually there working side by side with the soldiers. Awesome experience. It's the best way to see Israel.

  • Hi Danielle !! Hw is going?? Was a great time in Israel!! Sorry that I cant come now when there is trouble again. But next year will come again for sure!
