the funny thing is there are comments on here saying that this is a "ned" accent, but its not, this is REALLY cleaned up. anyone whos ever been to areas in glasgow where neds live knows they never pronouce their T's etc. etc
I like your accent before you even start talking like "someone from Glasgow" and after you started too. Actually I think the Scottish accent is the easiest to understand all of the English language.
Btw, English is not my mother language so that's why I probably wrote something wrong here. lol
I'm American, from the Midwest, and I understand this perfectly. But we Midwesterners are mostly descended from Scots-Irish anyway, so I suppose I speak a dialect of Ullans that's diverged a bit from the standard over a few hundred years.
@anonimuslee 'Ullans' is another word for 'Ulser-Scots' and is spoken in Ulster (Northern Ireland) not in Scotland (i.e. Glasgow, where Glaswegian is spoken). It sounds very different. Check youtube for Belfast accent, that should come close to 'Ullans'.
I still can't but help notice the delicious irony in the fact that most of those complaining about my supposed poor diction, can't bloody well WRITE properly...
thats no glasweigan thats ned dialect! eg,haww,am gonnae chib ye wae ma maws tattie peeler then go oot fur a swally cus am pure chokin for a buckfast man hawww.

oh how i wish i can have a accent like this but i cant even roll my tongue to produce the "r" accent. haha, got hook up after hearing desmond's scottish accent in Lost.
I don't speak like a ned. Ned accents are far more nasal, almost squeaky. I just speak like an ordinary Glaswegian speaking with another ordinary Glaswegian.
Just because it isn't Standard English doesn't make it 'Neddy' or automatically pejorative. It's a dialect - but dialect isn't necessarily a bad thing, nor the result of some bad cultural background. All spoken languages were probably once the dialect of another language or other...
You'd probably say Robert Burns spoke like a ned. :-P
@mightymanlap It sounds to me like "You asked for it, didn't ye?!" - I think it's just a bit less clear because it was a bit loud for the microphone. :)

Native is Gaidhlig if your from most of the west coast, Pictish (basically Welsh and now long dead) if yer from the North East or South West and the Scots version of English/Anglo Saxon if yer from the South East.
Add to that the fact all three languages have been spoken in parts of all these areas at one point or another and you have the confusing issue of Scottish linguistics.
Oh and Norse was spoken in many places for about 400 years.
True.. lowland scots sounds weirdly like medieval english if you understand medieval english pronounciation.. damn me if scots is a language its a fucking english dialect. English folk in the middle ages used to say "turn oot teh licht" in a very similar form.
