  • Check the run capacitors on the supply and take up motors.

    :-]

  • Thanks for the tip, I made this video some years ago and since then I have had to replace the run caps in an AKAI GX-400D, 2 X EMI BTR-2, 3 X EMI TR-90, 2 AKAI M-7, and I know I have many other machines with these problems.Sadly I gave this machine away last year so I cant check it on this.

  • Are these valve?

  • Yes

  • @Seblington Thank you, i'm buying one with a new philips :-) Cheers!

  • This machine has two pause controls. Are you sure this is its original configuration? There's one on the run lever and another on the head cover. Usually series five Wearite decks have one or the other.

  • Cant you re edit without the copywrite material, i would be so chuffed to hear what you have to say about the old girl.

I have one in the studio in perfect order and use the monitor amps post a neve 33609jd compressor because the old tube amps sound so delicious.

  • NOOOO bring back the audio

  • I am not sure which song they didnt like and no longer have the machine to make another video, shame as almost all the music on this video are only 15 second segments (about 3-4 tunes used)

  • Awesome video. Keep on with that good work!

  • Beautiful

  • I have 2 mark 1 vortexion wva's for sale if anyone is interested...

  • I could be interested, what are you looking for them?

  • Nice. But the cheap BIB splicer glued to the front spoils it a little.

  • The splicer is screwed to the deck, in fact the manufactures have designed the deck with pre tapped holes to accommodate this very splicer, its not something just stuck on there, they are a manufactures extra.

  • Duly noted, but it still looks like a cheap addition to what is a very nice machine.

  • VERY NICE MACHINE.

  • Cheers!

  • Great sound from this vintage tube recorder, it works audio magic on the classic rock 'n' roll playing on it!!, a great find!...Lloyd.

  • You mention in your description that the left channel records with a dull sound. If it's only left channel recording that's a problem, that rules out alignment error since a misalignment between record and play heads would affect both channels equally.

I'd suspect a problem with either the bias circuit or the record equalizer in the left channel. It is also possible that the record head is worn unevenly, but that's less likely.

Excellent work on your videos. I enjoy them immensely.

  • what is the instrumental bit of music at the end of the video?

  • Shadows - Apache

  • Whats the music playing into the recording input ?

  • Shadows - Apache

  • VERY nice machine, neat looking and good sound! I hope you can get the recording working properly.

  • Cheers! I have another one of these coming soon too, the CLB6 which is a three speed machine.

  • You have a great collection of vintage U.S.A. and European decks, and these decks serve well in re-mastering of old recordings using these beauties!!

Keep up the collecting, and deck restorations for current and future generations to see and hear just how far back good quality recording goes!!

    Great Collection!!!

  • Thank you! most of the recorders are British or German, only a few US machines.

  • cool videos i thank i have seen them all i'm thanking about geting me a good reel to reel

  • hi seb any comments regarding the performance or quality of the pioneer r 707 reel to reel machine

  • Hello,it may be better to post this comment on the vintagerecorders web forum.

    Cheers

  • hi seb fantastic recorder ive seen these machines at car boot sales and just missed buying one in leic at a auction room for 5.00 quid i arrived 5 minutes to late . you have informative vids which i find enjoyable regards ken uk

  • Cheers, I was lucky as I had been given 6 of these machines, I now only have two, this one and a WVC, the WVC being very rare.

  • Hey, you always impress me with your audio stuff, there really great, I like listening to your present them and speak about them. Cheers. Thanks.

  • Cheers!

  • Yet another FASCINATING video! Thanks. What an interesting machine. Did you say the capstan is covered in rubber, but the pinchroller is brass? Also, is it playing through its own speakers, the sound is wonderful. What size reels is it using? Amazing machine, and a wonderful video from you 5 stars! I bet this cost a lot of money when new.

  • Cheers! The reels are 8.1/4 inch, the sound is coming from my Technics A909s amp and a pair of Jamo classics and Epos speakers, the internal one of the Vortexion does sound tinny but plug the speaker outputs to good quality speakers and the machine sounds amazing

  • This machine is SO AWESOME! IT sounds the same. I really like your presentation!

  • Cheers, this is a great recorder, its one a few people I know want off me, they use to come up for sale often now you dont see them, I have had 7 of these so far, now just 2.

  • Hi...Very interesting Video...Can you please give me any info on the Vortexion 15/4/M (4 input mono output valve mixer)...A friend of mine one in his recording studio...We need to get it serviced here in the UK if possible...Anything you can tell us would be helpful, its age ,its main purpose when new...Ive read that Joe Meek used to use them a lot...?

  • Cheers! I am sorry to say though I know very little about their mixers apart from they were used in PA along with some of their amps.

  • Interesting machine.Thank you for video!

  • Cheers!

  • thank you for the video of this superb machine

  • Cheers!

  • Nice machine! I've seen a similar one, but it had round meters instead of the square ones.

  • Thank you! there are many round meter versions of this recorder but almost all of them are mono, there is one very rare recorder called the WVC which has the round meters and is also stereo, there is one of these recorders on my website.
