My therapist showed me how to do this to relieve symptoms of anxiety. This plus exercise she said, could help me come off medication and perhaps not to ever go back on them if practised daily. She was so good at it, she could do it whilst sat down. Is she giving me inflated hopes?
Inflated hopes? Not in the least bit. Deep breathing is a very well known technique to help you with anxiety. I get anxiety sometimes myself, but I know to take a few minutes to close my eyes and focus on this way of breathing. It really does work wonders. And I strongly believe you'll get off your meds if you continue doing the exercise and meds.
OK, so maybe I should reconsider how I rate therapy of this nature and quit affording conventional medicine so much credit; I'll give it a regular try. I found your balloon analogy and the accompanying inflating sound quite helpful, perhaps because when my therapist was sat there with her stomach rising up and down - in silence - , all I could think of was how is she being able to breath without moving her upper torso/chest. I was later to learn that it takes practice. Thanks for the reply.
I know this is kind of forward, but you're amazingly hot. You've got a great body and a great voice. I'm 26, and honestly I'd drop whatever it was I carried if you beckoned right on the floor. :) Just a random lewd internet comment for you!
Yes, it is ... I personally go a lot deeper than that as a trained vocalist, I have been trained to overshoot that area. If you can breath from your belly (below your diaphragm), this technique works even better. Sorry for the confusion.
um one thing you say at 1:56 your breathing is comeing from your diaphrm where you put your hand um that was your stomach you diaphram isnt your stomach and your use it everything you breath so i dont get this diaphramic breathing stuff. was told its something about breathing with your diaphram more but your diaphram is whatcauses your to breathe so how can there be a special type of diaphramic breathing
Some of you can not do long inhalation that do this:imagine that the back of your throat is smiling when inhaling and exhaling, just like trying to make a snoring sound without a sound.I should sound like a sound of an ocean.
This is an Ujjali yogic breathing technique.Good luck.
You have to practice and over time you will be able to hold your breathing longer. It is very good for your lungs to stretch out your lung capacity this way as well.
when i do it with my stomach its very shallow, i feel like something is holding it, my stomach is pretty relax i dont think its tense or anything, i cannot breathe fully at all when i try abdominal breathing, what is going on?
This is really neat. I can honestly say that it does alleviate anxiety, and I have major anxiety problems. Im 26, and I don't think i've ever done this sort of breathing before in my life. Is it common when starting out for your diaphragm to twitch when inhaling, like a spasm or something?
The breathing demonstrated in this video is abdominal breathing. It is better than chest or clavicle breathing, but abdominal breathing is not the same thing as diaphragmatic breathing. The diaphragm is a large horizontal muscle in the lower chest cavity, connected to the lower ribs all the way around. The top of the diaphragm is immediately adjacent to the bottom of the heart. Photographs of diaphragms in cadavers are shown in the diaphragmatic breathing video on my YouTube page.
it feels like i have multiple ballons not just one ... any feedback lol

so you use your abdomen{navel} when you do the deep breating with the diaphram?
I feel that the deep breathing is more relaxed but doesnt that put more stress on your body?

This will not help you to sing.
Period. You are squeezing and pushing the stomach out, this is not correct.

this is a great video, but your diafram is located under your chestplate, around your lungs.

Should I inhale through my nose and exhale through my nose also, keeping my mouth closed the whole time?
