The suits are now made to look best with a bottom button not buttoned to avoid a stovepipe look. Some King years ago was too large to button his bottom button and he started the tradition. There are still some suits like Zoot suits which are designed to look good buttoned all the way to the bottom. Thanks.
Just had a funny experience- I misread the title. Thought it said "Fly tying". As in tying flies for fly fishing. I must have spring on my mind! Maybe I should dress up & go fishing. That would be an interesting sight.
You are very welcome. You must be careful to learn self defense if you use the bow tie near groups of ladies. They will attack you and try to touch the bow tie.
Great video - I watched it all the way through, even though I have no use for any of it. /Grin. I taught my son all but the bow tie part - so it was nice to see that. Somehow I thought it would be complicated.
Thanks, Liz. It is always a surprise for people when they see how easy the bow tie is to tie. It actually is probably as easy as a clip on for a young person with fast hands.
Great. I know how to put a tie on done it for years. I personally myself to don't like big knots for the tie. I prefer them small. I wear a tie a bit often cause of the weather and climate season to keep warm.
You are right that a tie does help increase body warmth in winter. I probably should have mentioned winter outerwear and how the tie helps to act like a scarf. Thanks.
Thanks, Andy. Many people today do not realize men wore suits and hats if they went to a movie or even if they went shopping in the 1950s and before. A wardrobe man in Hollywood told me to keep the bow tie slightly off center so nobody would think it was a clip on.
Very nice, Tom. I know how to do this stuff -- I worked for a tuxedo shop many years ago and learned all you guys secrets ... well, maybe not all -- heheh.
@Featureman Yes, Tom, it was a tailor who owned the shop I worked for and he made suits and ties and custom boxer shorts for people, too. I worked part time during his busy season from February to September for many years while I was raising my kids. It was one of the most fun jobs I've had -- very "hands on" work -- haha!
I havent actually worn a tie in absolutely ages, Smart they may be, but always seemed to be some kind of male choking device. Mind you i had forgotten (tie tying is not like riding a bike for some reason). Thanks a lot Tom - u give valuable time to help us silly forgetful people. U R a star
You are amazing, sir! Very helpful video! Thank you!

Hey, I was the one who requested a tie tying tutorial.

See what we've done. Now a wave of fashion will sweep YouTube and the world and we will be blamed. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have worn a lot of suits, but no one ever told me why we don't button the bottom button of a jacket. Why is that? Where did that tradition start?

Yeah that should be a good tip to use. Maybe use it for the next tutorial. All the best.

@KarloR27 I never realized a tie could be used to keep warm. Interesting!

Great video, Tom. And nice threads. It's a shame people don't dress up anymore. I never thought about wearing my tie slightly crooked. Good idea!

I rarely ever dress up now. I used to wear all the fancy stiff when I was a movie extra. Thanks.

Thanks, Liz. There are not many formal shops around now like there used to be. I used to have shirts made by a tailor at a very reasonable price.

Thanks. It is fun to do the videos. Ties are indeed uncomfortable if one has to wear them every day.

Tom, you're a father to us all. Wish someone had gone through this with me when I was 15. Thank you!

Thank you. I know I could not tie a tie when I was 15.

This is great stuff. Serious too. Oh by the way, a cyber-bully named WhoWantThisAccount is persturing me. So if he replies to my comment, block him.
