It depends what you are looking for. The Q4 is awesome for being quiet but doesn't have a lot of gains over stock. The 4.1 or the Polaris system is louder but puts out decent gains.
The spark arrestor prevents any large sparks from getting out of the exhaust and starting fires. In this case, it's basically a screen that the exhaust has to go through.

It shouldn't hurt the machine. Is it an IRS or S? The IRS's flow a bit better and if you have the lid off and spark arrestor out, they may run a little lean. The backfire is telling you that you're lean somewhere but the 525's are known for slight popping on decceleration when jetted correctly. The spark arrestor is made to reduce noise and prevent fires by containing any sparks that would have escaped without the spark arrestor.
If you ride mostly trails, I think you'll love it. The ground clearance and smooth ride can't be compared to any straight axle sport quad. The occasional sand pit shouldn't be a problem either. The engines are strong as well. The only thing I miss from a straight axle is not being able to slide as well. I came from a Predator 500 and have no regrets.

Don't worry about taking the spark arrestor out. The only way it will hurt it is if the motor is jetted lean to start with. The Outlaw 500's are a little rich from the factory, so it will be alright. The flow isn't increased too much to cause damage or a huge increase in power. It's more of a sound deal like you said.
ya. i noticed u have a video of a predator 500 with an fmf powercore... i was looking at the powercore 4 instead of the q4 but do u find the power core too loud or not too much, compared to the q4
That's actually a Pure Polaris pipe that I had on the Predator. I bet that it flows better only because it makes more noise (buddy had one on his 400EX). That was the main reason behind my getting the Q4, I didn't want the noise.

I just purchased a 2007 outlaw 525, and I was looking for exhaust clips. Yours is by far the best. Thanks for taking the time to run the quad in every stage of the project. I think I'm going to remove the stock spark arrestor and by an after market end cap because of your video. The stock exhaust sounds deep and throaty with the arrestor removed.

@tylerb33ify With all 525 IRS machines, the exhaust is a center mount. Only the straight axle machines have the option of a side mount.

Your best bet would be to look around eBay. Nerfs run about 125-250 and pipes run from 200-350 for decent slip ons.
