  • These comments seem too much like all other "back in the day" comments. The problems faced by modern graphical effects teams are no more or less challenging then the ones faced in the past, they are simply different.

Instead of learning how to create the impression of rotation by moving the light source, they are working on how to create realistic fluid dynamics within the constraints of the technology available to them, which may or may not be state of the art. Etc.

  • True. Just a different set of limitations. Granted, doing anything impressive 25 years ago required a LOT of effort. Today, computer programs churn out great-looking animations with far less effort. I have used both methods over the years. Today, in 3 days, I can crank out realistic CG animation that 25 years ago would have meant scale model building that took months or longer, and elaborate camera rigging.

  • Pretty good work.

I'm a huge fan of the old way of doing special effects. Thumbs up man!

  • Thanks. This video was made in 1987. It was a considerable effort, back then. Kids today are spoiled by computer graphics so advanced. The old methods seem ?? to them.

  • Oh man, I couldn't agree with you more!

Computers have made it so easy that they've actually been losing creativity because instead of working hard and trying to get the effect they want and working around problems, they just point and click a few times and voila, instant preset computer render.
