The drug war is a scam of the highest order. It purports to want to keep people safe from the dangers of drugs but it causes more problems than the drugs themselves. For example pot has many negative side effects but none of them are nearly as bad as what happens when you get arrested for pot. Getting arrested and jailed takes you away from your best support group, your friends and family, and makes it nearly impossible to get a good job. The laws make recovery harder than it would be w/o them.

I think the USA uses the drug war primarily for political purposes, as a way to manipulate other countries. By providing them with weapons and allowing their drugs to enter the US, the American gov't lets the cartels do it's dirty work of causing instability and opposing leaders in countries it disfavors. Entering a country under the premise of aiding them in the drug war, is another way the US can establish a military presence in that country.

Back in the 1990s I took part in a counselling programme for Police officers working in narcotics.
Many said they had constant nightmares about ‘microwaved children’; apparently a sight many of them face in their duties is for addicts with babies/toddlers to cook their infants in microwave ovens. The drug war is a scam of the highest order. It purports to want to keep people safe from the dangers of drugs but it causes more problems than the drugs themselves. For example pot has many negative side effects but none of them are nearly as bad as what happens when you get arrested for pot. Getting arrested and jailed takes you away from your best support group, your friends and family, and makes it nearly impossible to get a good job. The laws make recovery harder than it would be w/o them.

I think the USA uses the drug war primarily for political purposes, as a way to manipulate other countries. By providing them with weapons and allowing their drugs to enter the US, the American gov't lets the cartels do it's dirty work of causing instability and opposing leaders in countries it disfavors. Entering a country under the premise of aiding them in the drug war, is another way the US can establish a military presence in that country.

It's true America uses the drug war to manipulate other countries but it is the greed of the other countries' own leaders that makes it possible for America to influence them. Mexico for example has a vast wealth of natural resources, minerals, forests, oceans, agricultural land, etc. Everything the people need is there, it's not America's fault that their country is run in such a way as to keep the people poor. Back in the 1990s I took part in a counselling programme for Police officers working in narcotics.
Many said they had constant nightmares about ‘microwaved children’; apparently a sight many of them face in their duties is for addicts with babies/toddlers to cook their infants in microwave ovens. It stems from a brain wiring issue in the frontal cortex- love for their offspring & wanting to feed them gets mixed up. Many with older kids simply bite into the flesh, causing horrific injuries.
